The only Non QB within 20 first downs of Bell(105) last year was Gurley(98). Moving the chains and scoring TDs are whats important imo and Bell is the best in the business over the last few years. Just for reference your average RB RB16 Christian McCaffrey had 57 1st downs. Pretty huge gap between elite and average.
true...so much more than running through holes. Blocking a rushing LB, catching the football, and not turning the ball over.

not a dime a dozen position

Most teams split their RB duties. They do that because trans know RBs are pretty interchangeable.
no....most teams do that cause they don't have a bell cow and the position requires so much play after play, they need a rest....unlike WR, OL, TE or any other position.
Parcels said it best, there's a bull's eye on a RB's shirt. Ask Freeman when Hitchins blew the hole and knocked his ass out

FWIW I don't fault Bell here either. Nothing wrong with trying to make as much as you can. It just didn't work out.

Last year.....
He was offered the first two years as guaranteed money and the third year he could of made the same plus more with the incentives in the contract.....but he turned it down because it's not 5 years and every year guaranteed money. He was offered above and beyond last year and I'm sure the same was with this year.....have to wait to see the specifics of what he was offered.....but Pittsburgh prey much meet his demands, except he refused incentives on the third year, and refused to even talk unless it was 5 years total.
He turned it down because what you describe functions as a 2 year deal with 3 options, probably...

You're nuts lol. The best RBs in the league are marginally better than average backs . That's why they dont get paid. RBs are a dime a dozen
This times a million. The best ones are nice to have- you can also get 80% of that with a day 2 pick. It's probably the least consequential on the field at a given time. Bell is not a HR guy on top of it so idk.

Sure backs get hurt ( as does Bell ). That doesn't change anything. If you gave most NFL starting backs 400 touches they'd have similar numbers to Bell. Pitt uses him more and almost exclusively . That's the only difference between him and 20 other backs

Bell should have taken the steelers offer. Teams are not willing to shell out huge guaranteed money to running backs

respectfully disagree, very few RB's can take 400 touches and produce to the level the elite backs do, just like targets don't equate to the same production at wide receiver. Elite at any position in sports is just that, no way is it a dime a dozen

Maybe. Burkhead has no real volume carry seasons to know for sure .

RB is the only skill position on the field where you get the ball without having to do anything to get it. It's not like WR or TE. Bell is fine but you're deluding yourself if you think he's substantially better than 2/3 of the starters on the league . He's used more but his per use is no better than most and worse than many saying he's substantially better than others is like saying Jarvis Landry is a top 3 receiver or Wes Welker was a top 15 all time receiver

If this is the case than I have to side with the Steelers on this one. He is a RB and franchise tag is between $11.86 mil. He is getting well above ($14.5 mil)that because he had already been franchised before. I can accept if he wants to be the highest paid back in the NFL and if he was offered $15 mil and refuses then it is on him. The only position that has a tag value more than the $15 mil per year he was offered is QB and there is no way any team is going to offer him that money. The $15 mil is the best he is going to get and to be honest more than he deserves IMO given the current salary structure.

After looking at this more, I was wrong in what I said. It sounds like the Steelers offered a lot in the end. He is challenging the basic notion of what a RB should be paid. I think he is going to find he is wrong. I would not be shocked if he re-signed with the Steelers in a year once he sees his options.

And no, I was just joking about Philly signing him. I don't see the Eagles devoting big bucks to a running back, considering the other cap issues that will start to pop up for them with such a stacked roster. If anything, I expect them to let Ajayi walk in free agency due to money, much less sign Bell.
