C'mon, man, they each only played 2 games in Vegas. I could add that Moe Wagner (3 games) also didn't play, as well as Caruso (5 games and the starting PG).

I was a bit disappointed that the Lakers couldn't get a look at Berry in Summer League (injured), or that Newman couldn't do much either. I wonder if Newman keeps that 2-way contract...
you dont typically see 2nd year guys like Hart getting so much run in the Summer League.

He is getting a lot of run predominately, i would guess, because they are trying to up his trade value- and it probably has worked to a certain extent.

@Shanemansj13

do have to say--- a few things make this a lot beter this time aaround--- (i) lebron will be 34 in December, and (ii) the Cavs are a MILLION times better off this time around.

Osman and Sexton will be good guys to start with. Zizic, Clarkson, Hood, Nance are not a bad base either.

I really like their young core. Hopefully their game can translate to the NBA level. Sexton looks explosive, needs to work on his deep shot but he is a competitior. He looks like a stud

Zizic was unstoppable in Summer League. Why was Hart even playing? Lolzzz he doesnt need to be in summer league, it’s the reason why Zizic and Osman didnt play. No doubt the Cavs win this thing, even with the Lakers full squad.

Hart is probably playing because the Lakers want to audition him for a trade...that would be my guess.

Collin Sexton won summer league with this sumo wrestler-style psyche out

the guy I was listening to on the radio said that Sexton's defense is already NBA-ready....kind of hard for me to believe a 19 year old rookie is "nba ready" defensively, but i definitely think he is way ahead of where most guys are defensively as rookies.

Great game

Really liked his game and intensity. I think you guys got a good one. He doesn't have Kyrie's offense, but he's already far better defensively.

Why was Hart even playing?

From what I've read, because he wants to play as much as possible to keep getting better.

He told the Lakers that he was going to work hard over the summer and be the first guy in and the last guy out.

So far, he's been true to his word. Magic says he's pushing to be the starter at the 2.

I don't know if I buy that, but I'd have liked to have seen both teams playing at full strength.

Although, as good as last nights game was, I don't know if that would have made it better or not.

i don't know about anyone else, but seems to ME the dude's simply dedicated to his game...

The trade value bit is a possibility, but they had challenged him to improve certain areas in the offseason and perhaps they used the summer league as his proving ground.

There are more vets in the summer league than you may expect, and both the Lakers and Cavs had at least one player that was nearly 30 playing a starting role lol.

Yeah, from what I've heard he really wanted to play and lead the summer league team. He's been the driving force behind it all, more so than the coaches / front office.

Oh shit now you're a Lakers fan? Bad choice, really bad choice. There's already way too many of those people around here.

Great game

Man, that defensive stance had ZERO effect on Hart, he just missed the shot. That was going to be a pull-up 3 the whole time, and Sexton didn't even get up to his elbow to challenge the shot. He's just looked like a goofball IMO. He tried pulling this again in OT and Hart went right around him and drew FTs.

The real shock-value play of that game last night was the double-pump 3 pointer in the 2nd OT. Why wasn't Billy Preston playing more?

you could put in blanks in certain areas of this post and apply it to practically any player in the league.

there are very few 2nd year players that accomplished much of anything that go to Summer League.

There are plenty of fringe prospects and never-beens in the summer league---- but typically you dont see 2nd year players there that got much run during their rookie seasons. Of course there are exceptions to every rule.

And?

The question was "Why is he playing in the summer league?" That's the answer based on what he said and what he's been doing.

and it furthers my point.

You could say that about just about ANYONE in summer league.....take Osman with the Cavs- he is a 2nd year player that did not get a ton of run last year. Even though he played in summer league he only played a couple games- which is typically what happens unless you are a rookie. A vast majority of players on these summer league teams will be bagging groceries in a couple weeks.

The overiding reason to give a guy so many minutes in his 2nd year after being a 1st round pick in the summer league i believe is to feature him for a trade. Otherwise its very very rare to see a guy- A. play in summer league in his 2nd year after being a 1st round pick, and B. playing so much. Like Osman- you might get a couple games- but only so much can be done playing against some 30 year old from Notre Dame getting paid a 100 bucks a day trying to keep the dream alive. The Cavs decided to let Zizic leave and not play Osman so they could see guys like Preston to dtermine if they are worthy of camp invites.

Ill guarantee you the reason that Hart got so much run, and not only played, but has played a TON is that they are featuring him to get his trade value up.
