I'd be curious how successful teams that have 1 player eating up over 20% of their total payroll have been historically.
Agon takes up 18% of braves payroll and plays for the Mets:suds:

I think the Cincinnati model might give you a clue.

I think Allen Craig still makes up 18% of the Sox payroll

I think it's hard to come to any conclusions based on one player's percentage of a team's payroll in baseball. If you're talking about a fantasy baseball scenario where you have a salary cap, then yeah you don't want to spend too much on one player.

Field guy on their TV game today with the Cubs -- it is spring training -- that tickets for some seats at Jet Blue ballpark were going for $500!

Rusney doesn’t count because of service time.

Craig may have been the same but I forget.

But 18m is not .07%. One percent of 235 is 2.35m

It'd be nice to see Castillo get a fresh start with a team that wants him, but the Red Sox have so much financial incentive to keep him in their organization but off the 40-man roster that it seems unlikely to happen. Castillo is hitting .294 with a homer in 34 at-bats this spring:suds:

not that it matters luxury tax is a joke

I'm sorry. I'm a dunce.

He counts for payroll (he still gets paid obviously), he doesn't count luxury tax purposes.

That's what i was trying to say.

I know it will never happen, but I wish that baseball would institute a salary cap. I think they should include a minimum too.
It cannot be considered a competitive league when you have a team with a $235 million payroll playing a team with a $67 million payroll. That's a difference of $168 million. That's more than the Yankees total payroll.
I'd like to see a minimum of $80 million and a max of $150 million. Your top teams would still have an advantage, but at least the teams could be close.
