Most qbs who throw for more than about 350 yards in a game do so because they were losing throughout and had to pass just to keep it close, or it was a very close game/shootout to begin with.

If you throw for 400 yards and your team blew out the other team, it's probably because the other team has a god-awful defense and was getting shredded early. Under normal circumstances, once you get to a certain total you may be up by enough points that you don't need to pass often enough to get to such a high total.

For this reason I take these sorts of statistics very lightly.
True, but I think Tom Brady went 11-2 the past two years while throwing for 300 yards so the Patriots are dependent on those yards.

Yards are a meaningful stat but only when you have coaching to back things up. It makes you wonder how many games the Steelers have bungled over the years.

Tater salad with bacon!!!!

To me he is just another body wearing the uniform of the team I follow.
Don't care as long as the team wins Sunday.

Go Pats!

So its all just a system?

But because they're in the system they're also the greatest?

I feel like if both are true then the Patriots are some sort of imbalance on the level of UCONN Women's Basketball.
Well, when you're this dominant over the rest of the league, in ways we really haven't seen before (if you go back all the way to the start of the Belichick regime) you leave everyone else with less and less room to argue that Belichick/Brady/Gronk is not the GOAT at their position except that the rest of the team was also great. I think that's a tenuous argument because it relies on hypotheticals about what would happen if all the others weren't there. Well, the same is true of so many other players in sports.

300 is one thing. 300 can happen in a semi-normal gameplan. Once you get to 400 or so that's more than what the average team gains, through the air and on the ground, per game, so that's a special thing and THAT usually requires either the opposing defense to be god-awful, or the game script to require you to pass more than normal.

All teams have those games every so often. One way that you may know you have a not-very-good qb is when he can't even get to 300+ if he has a whole game's worth of trailing to do it imo. The only team that wins those games very consistently, however, is New England and that's for a whole host of reasons.

no. ones jimmy graham. he said he was a WR, remember?

the money?

hes not in gronks class. 4 really good years and hes been healthy.

I don't give AF what he tried to call himself for the money. He's a TE. The arbitrator said so. And it's not like Gronk lines up right next to an OL on every play either.

Plus, last three seasons:

A: 43 G/39 GS/170 REC/2048 YD/18 TD
B: 37 G/35 GS/166 REC/2800 YD/22 TD

Yes, one is slightly better, but to be considered the best ever and make up for the difference in eras, I kind of feel like he should at least be blowing his contemporaries out of the water.

Yes, Graham's production has fallen off, but his OC just got fired too, so idk. But, I said Gronk's numbers were better anyway, but outside of one year he's just not blowing Graham out of the water by any means, even in the 3 seasons that you claim Graham was no good.

And you're right, no one is arguing Graham is one of the best of all time or better than Gronk. I'm just trying to say Gronk isn't the best ever and the fact that he is so statistically close to a contemporary who isn't even in the conversation and has proves that.

he is not statistically close. one guys been a redzone only guy the past 3-4 years

one terrorizes LB'ers and DB's.

ones being called the best TE ever, or in the conversation.

ones named jimmy graham.

Tony Gonzalez and it's not really close . Gronk can't stay on the field . If he turns that around he will have a chance to pass Gonzalez but not close right now

He's in the discussion for #2.

Nobody is Jerry Rice though.

If Randy Moss had played for a great coach and with a great QB his whole career Jerry Rice would still be playing at 55 and chasing Randy's records instead of hanging out in gay bars flexing his little faggoty arms in SF.

Alright Boss

Hernandez wan an adequate blocker for a TE, but he was never the bulldozer that our big idiot is. Gronkowski pancakes O-linmen for chrissakes and he has crazy fucking pass catching skills that make us go
