See, that's where I stop. If I can't explain it, and I can't see an obvious difference between coaching from regular season and postseason, it truly truly just may be bullshit people get worked up about because their team lost or they overly empathize for whatever reason.

In Tomlins case especially, you get all these guys talking about New England, even in the broadcast, the announcers were saying they thought they looked past this game, etc.

Thats just something that has to fall on Tomlin also in terms of not being completely prepared to play a team that already destroyed you this season

I can sympathize with this argument (along with NE owning them during his tenure) better than "herpa derp, he went 1 and done and I need to find reasons to fire him" I suspect is happening here.

While we can question more than that decision in hindsight, one can understand his rationale a little. Like he said in the presser, the defense didn't stop anybody the whole game. Hard to have faith in them doing it there.
His team went out and scored 42 points on what everybody is proclaiming the next "great" defense in football. Yeah, some of that was a bit of luck and some unbelievable catches but if anybody on these boards or anywhere else, for that matter, had said going in that Pitt would score 42, I think it would have been unanimous that everyone would have bet on the Steelers.
At some point the players have to make plays between the lines. A lot of Steelers players did not. Especially on defense. They made Blake fucking Bortles look like Joe Montana out there.

I really dont buy the onside kick explantion....Sure the defense didnt stop them all day, but when you are in a situation where the Jags are gonna run straight into the line 3 times, only the Bradys' and Mannings' throw a ball in that spot, and you can stack the box....Thats different than what you are facing all day long, the Jags would almost be in surrender mode in that spot, and try to get the Steelers to use their TO's

No I don't want him fired. I look forward to him making an ass of himself with his obsession with the Pats.
Looking past your next opponent is not good form.
They have a tendency to be insulted and pissed.
How did that work out for you Mike?

Yup.

That team was terrible and the AFC was ripe this year.

He's not going to build it back up post-Ben. They better get an offensive guy.

I hate Haley as much as anyone and think he's over rated and a collossal douche but again, hard to really fault anything on the offense in this game.
42 points scored
545 total yds
462 passing yds (vs. the best pass D in all of football)
7-16 3rd down conv
4-6 4th down conv (of course, a couple of questionable go for its and fails)
Having said that, I still dislike Haley. Just that this particular game falls on the Steelers D

The QB sneak is the most underutilized tool in the game, its nearly impossible to stop, Ben should have been eating up those inches twice

Oh, I know and personally, I wouldn't have called it either. Especially considering it's something the team doesn't even really practice. I just meant that I kinda understand it in a way.

Those numbers are nice but Big Ben should have done a QB sneak.....for that reason alone you can fire Haley. That could have been a difference maker.

David DeCastro on team’s pregame obsession with Patriots: It’s embarrassing and stupid

David DeCastro on team’s pregame obsession with Patriots: It’s embarrassing and stupid

The Steelers overlooked and dismissed the Jaguars all week, which is strange considering Jacksonville beat them 30-9 three months ago.

When the Jaguars ran off the field Sunday after their 45-42 victory, they did it yelling for Mike Mitchell. The safety told Sports Illustrated the Steelers would play the Patriots again, and running back Le'Veon Bell expressed similar sentiments in a tweet.

At least one Steeler was as angry at some of his teammates as the Jaguars were.

“They were ready to go; they were mad; they were angry; they had something to prove, and they did it,’’ Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro said, via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Yeah, it’s embarrassing. It really is, man. It just blows my mind. They beat us 30-9 [on Oct. 9]. We played like crap, and we want to talk about New England?

“I don’t know what to say about that. It’s just stupid. It’s just not what you do. You don’t need to give a team like that more bulletin board material.”

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin began his team’s obsession with New England in a November 26 interview with Tony Dungy on NBC’s Football Night in America, saying he expected to play the Patriots twice this season and adding “we should win it all.” On Saturday night, Bell tweeted “we’ll have two round 2’s in back to back weeks,” referring to playing the Jaguars and Patriots a second time.

“I’m never a guy to say anything about the other team but respect them and congratulate them, which is what you should do,’’ DeCastro said. “They’re a talented team and they proved that today.

“It should be obvious to me. I love my teammates and care a lot about them, but that’s not something I like to see.”

Something I kind of found interesting:

The Steelers played 4 games with their starters after they lost Shazier including yesterday. Here are the points they allowed:

38
27
6 (Tom Savage Texans)
45

Isn't Big Ben 18 for 19 or something like that on sneaks? Classic Haley.
Oh yeah. I agree with both of you guys on both of those head scratchers. Even a straight hand off to LeVeon and up the gut would have been acceptable, imo. No way am I letting Haley off the hook completely. I was merely pointing out that maybe the defense shouldn't have had them trying desperation shit all game.

The odds of his replacement being a downgrade are overwhelming... You tell me who would be better suited for the job, and I'll tell you why you're wrong.

This team is centered around a cast of prima-donnas. If any hard-nosed coach were to come in to create a more disciplined atmosphere they would cause too much friction with the players. They could use a youthful voice that everyone could rally around, but it won't happen.

Simply put, the Rooneys will continue to do business the way they always have. They have a successful product right now, whether it lives up to lofty expectations or not. Tomlin would need to drag this team through a couple of sub-500 seasons before he gets the boot.

Fire Tomlin and promote Haley to the HC position?

Yup, it was embarassing to watch how bad they were yesterday in the biggest of spots, a little dumpoff to Yeldon going for 40 yards, I mean it was just so bad how easy the Jags were getting huge chunks..The FB of all people running free down the middle of the field...It was so bad
