He has talent and played well but the Texans under Watson have played a spread offense with some read option. They also rely on simple reads. I just don't see Shanahan wanting to go that route. I also don't think that is going to be successful in the long term so it will be interesting to see how Watson adjusts in future.
Like I said earlier; I wanted Watson but now that we got Garopollo I'm glad we didn't draft him.

Don't think a trade down will happen now? With a potential win #6, we might be near #10 or #11?

So no problem, just draft the guy who'll pan out All-Pro. His position can be just about anywhere, but panning out is what we want. Ideally, i want the LEO of course, but we don't force it.

I think someone that will impact the team will be available at the back half of the top 10

I'm sure. We might not get the position we want, but there has to be a solid player. We still have holes to fill and then depth at key spots.

Its too bad New Orleans did so well, our 2nd rounder isn't too good.

Two good 3rd round picks will help too.

probably not at #10 to #12. But there are still quality players at that position especially given what we are looking for. Good players in the first three rounds.

49ers’ need to address edge rush in next step for young defense

Totally agree, if the value is there, fill the LEO first and foremost. Even a little trade up is ok, if they're CONVINCED someone provides that value.

Nothing helps pass defense like a rush, and its the domino effect that creates pressure. It won't be just the LEO who applies pressure, but he'll be the catalyst.

IF no LEO is worth it, then agree with the edges. So that means the next consideration is CB.

I believe this is a deep CB draft so I'm not sure you need to take one in the top 10 to still get a very good player.

My priority list is edge rusher, cornerback, oline this year. All three are big needs so for me I would go with whoever is best there. We need to be able to get edge pressure, but Donate Johnson is also a huge liability and we have little else at corner right now. The inside of the oline (Center and at least one guard needs to be upgraded). Doing so would help keep Jimmy G healthy and open up the running game.

IF this is the case, then better for us. Fine with CB in the 2nd or even with one of the two 3rd rounders. Not saying we can't draft CB after Round 3, but anything after that is facing too much odds.

I'm one for the maximum talent we can draft, so not going to sweat it Round 1. i certainly prefer LEO followed by CB, but not going to sweat if its something else. We can use talent in a number of places, so main thing is he pans out.

I would actually be ok with that pick and free agent signing to be honest of all the corners Jackson is very very good. Sure he played at Iowa but he was a one man wrecking crew against Ohio State.

As with all FA's, the primary factor is money. How much do we want to spend on this guy, top of the line NFL money?

Almost sure they'll sign some free agents, at least one CB and one interior O-line. At what level we don't know?

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day - I'm talking about Grant Cohn - but yeah...pass rusher/corner/OL/OL....and then some bigger receiver. Whether it's the draft or FA.

The Niners got solid production out of 9 rookies that I can think of. That's pretty good talent evaluation and pretty good use of that talent.

So they pick either 9 or 10, depending on a coin flip with the Raiders.

BRING ON THE MOCK DRAFTS!

LOL, the cornerback position is telling. Witherspoon is the current regimes first drafted cornerback. He is better than the 10 cornerbacks Baalke drafted the past couple of years.

At pick 9 or 10, we'll be in good position to fill at least one of our big needs through the draft.

Edge - Bradley Chubb, NC St.; Harold Landry, BC; Clelin Ferrell, Clemson; Arden Key, LSU
OL - (OT) Connor Williams, Texas; (OG) Quenton Nelson, ND; (OT) Mike McGlinchey, ND
DB - Minka Fitzpatrick, Alabama; Derwin James, FSU,

Considering at least 2 QBs and RB S.Barkley will be taken before us, there is a very good chance more than one of our top rated players will fall right to us. I'd happily take Nelson at 9 even though he's a OG--he's rated very high. I'm not sure we'll be looking at the pass rushers in rd one b/c I'm not sure our FO would use our 1st rd pick on a Dlinemen for the 4th year in a row.

I think we will look at pass rushers first, specifically the LEO and not just "DL". But while i'm hoping for a LEO first, fans can't know if one of these Edge guys fit? Haven't read anything yet suggesting one of these guys are a LEO, so at this point don't think so?

But ok, no problem here if no LEO and we draft Nelson instead. Obviously, Jimmy G is the key and we have to reduce the hits on him. A top OG will also help the run game, which indirectly protects Jimmy G. All good play-off teams need a decent run game. But taking an OG this high, he'd have to project 'perenial All-Pro'.
