I'm hearing they think he won't have to sit out. Can play ASAP. That's the hot rumor.

I made a thread the other day asking the SEC fans about him, as I heard this too. Havent watched him play at all, so figured they could fill UM fans in. I know he was a 5 Star top 5 recruit and the #1 QB in 2016, but sometimes it doesn’t translate to the field.

I will say his passing numbers are crazy — averaging 315 yards passing in 10 starts. I’m not sure how I would react to UM having a vertical passing game.

The last thing I read, which I found odd — Shea Patterson grew up in Toledo and his dream growing up was to play in the Big House. Yet, even as the #1 QB, from the same city Harbaugh was born in, UM didn’t even offer him a scholarship?

No, the ban allows players who's eligibility spans the length of the ban to transfer and not sit out a year. All other players who's eligibility would span beyond the ban are free to leave but must sit out a year.

Only players who will be seniors are allowed to transfer without sitting out a year. The sanctions are for two years and Patterson has two years left, so if it were the length of the ban, that make him eligible to transfer without penalty. He can’t unless he gets a waiver passed by the NCAA.

So Michigan went from having like 7 QB's on the roster Harbaugh's first season to now only having 2(obviously Patterson would make a 3rd)?

They had Rudock and OKorn as grad transfers. Both are gone. Speight and Malzone are transferring. Gentry is a TE.

So UM cleaned house in the QB room. They will have all Harbaugh recruits. Peters RS Sophomore, McCaffrey RS Freshman, Joe Milton True Freshman And Kevin Doyle True Freshman.

I’m fine with Peters and McCaffrey going forward, but I definitely wouldn’t be upset to see Patterson transfer in. A QB that is mobile and has averaged 300+ yards a game? That can do nothing but help our pathetic offense.

Even if Patterson doesn't end up being much more than an above average QB, I think that would be enough to significantly improve the offense. O'Korn averaged 6.1 Y/A and barely completed over half his passes. Just look at the OSU game, there were so many open receivers missed. Not to mention having some semblance of a passing game could allow Michigan to run the ball with more success, especially with a QB that can run. We already have a pretty good running game with Evans and Higdon.

Exactly. The UM offense was atrocious this past year. It has been WAY too long since UM had a legit QB under center. Without one, it makes UM almost one dimensional against quality teams.
If we had a QB that can stretch the field with his arm and mobility to scramble and make plays — it’s make UM very tough to defend.

I’m not getting my hopes up though. I liked what little we got to see from Peters, but they need to work on his pocket presence, because he took way too many big hits, as he just flat out didn’t see a guy coming.

The guy who I think will be perfect for the UM offense is McCaffrey. You have to be extremely Football smart to run the type of offense UM is trying to run. They say his intelligence is off the chart. With his DNA, I’m sure he will be able to add a good 20-30 lbs of muscle. Of course, until you see them on the field, you never know.

The OL played a role in that IMO.

I agree, but QB’s see where the blitzes are coming from — he took 2 or 3 hits where he didn’t even see the guy coming.

Definitely agree the OL played a role though — that is part of why I was kind of excited hearing Patterson’s name, because of his scrambling.

I'm sure we'll be fine with these guys but if we can get the #1 QB from the 2016 class, I'm going to take that. What you're suggesting would be like saying, no I don't really want Donovan People's Jones.
No I am not saying that. What I am saying is Harbaugh was supposed to be a great instructor with QB's, and you have to admit that area had been pretty weak

I'll just post this here because it doesn't deserve another thread, but apparently Harbaugh is in Mississippi:

Is this a good thing for Ole Miss or for Michigan.

This dude is pretty freaking good, by far any QB scUM has. I actually hope they don’t get him, this kid is freaking legit

Do you want to compete for 3rd in the division and make the Outback bowl, come to Ann Arbor.

Shea Patterson, Deontay Anderson (safety — was 2nd team All-SEC as a true freshman) and Van Jefferson are all coming to UM on a visit this weekend.

I’d love to get the first two guys.

Some of the recruiting site guys for Michigan are now tweeting out that up to 7 Ole Miss players are interested in Michigan. That's insane, that's 1/3 of a recruiting class.

The two guys that’d really help are Shea Patterson and Greg Little. Those two could come in and start immediately. The others, they’d battle for playing time. UM returns basically everything but need a LB, LT and QB.

So will this stop Michigan fans from saying Harbaugh has to get his own players in or did we just restart the clock and have to hear that excuse for another three years?
