Coach bro has also shown he can take some no name QB nobody else wanted and develop them. If only he could consistently field a defense, he might actually have a regular bowl team in Lubbock. Coaching matters, but also recruiting the right kids does too.

Herman is a hard ass and a dick. Charlie's kids preferred a players coach obviously. They are bailing like rats off the titanic. Charlie was a stickler for rules, but he wasn't an asshole. Herman is an asshole. Like Saban but without the skins on the wall. You can put up with a hard ass if he's winning games and putting people in the NFL. Not so much at 6-6.

Bro is like a young, offensively minded Wade Phillips. The Peter Principle in all it's glory. he needs to be an OC and assistant HC, but he doesnn't have the defensive brain or the desire to devote resources to defense.

Herman's biggest issue for me is his lack of creating an identity or direction for this team.

WHO are we on offense? NOBODY knows. Not is coaches......not the players. Because he hasn't dictated what that is.

Saban, regardless of WHO is OC is, is going to RUN THE FOOTBALL. Everyone on the planet knows this. Players.....coaches.....recruits. But Herman hasn't figured this out yet.

That leads to big problems in recruiting. Every program named in this thread has a system and players are recruited to FIT that system regardless of star ranking. OSU and Tech are proof of this. They find 2 and 3 star kids, coach them up, and plug them in.......and win.

Texas just collects disparate talent that may or may not fit. Case in point.....Devin Duvernay. Only morons will tell you Texas has sub-par talent.......these kids were wanted by every major program in the country. Duvernay has speed and ability in the slot......that isn't utilized at Texas. He's wasted here. He should transfer.

Guys like Chris Warren......Duvernay.....Burt......Foreman......would all fit better at another school and likely be household names. But we have no idea how to coach and play these guys.

And this problem goes back to Mack......any Texas fans remember Desean Hales? How about DJ Monroe? There wasn't a DB in the nation or LB that could cover EITHER of those guys in the slot.......and neither ever got on the field.

Right now we're just warehousing talent. It's not a talent issue, it's a COACHING issue. Sooner or later some of you idiots will figure this out.

They had an identity. You just didn't like it. Offense ran mostly inside zone and had a short passing attack. Since they couldn't produce, people say no identity. It's just a nice way to say they were bad

It's not an identity if you can't do it.

There should be one thing this entire team knows they can do on offense when everything else is wrong.......what is that? THAT is their identity......and they don't have it. There is not ONE thing they can rely on offensively.

I'd be really upset if next year wasn't substantially better if I were a Longhorn fan.
I could see a 10 win season realistically.

I do not. I don't see any improvement on the Oline. They lose a lot on defense but have some young unproven talent coming in. 7-8 wins is about all, they should expect.

Where? They don’t look to improve on the o line, lose a bunch on defense, and I’m not sure their QB play will be any better.

The OL is a TRAINWRECK.

Herman is going to have to go the JUCO route to try to fix it. But as I keep saying.......COACHING is a major problem.

When you can't run block against Tech, you know you have issues. I didn't see a single OL player outside of Connor Williams winning consistently. They don't blow anyone off the ball, they don't pick up blitzes or stunts well......they don't do anything well. That's on coaching.

You can't convince me or anyone with a functional brain that Texas has found a way to recruit every bust at every position on the field for 7 years

what happens at QB? Does Shane leave or play backup? Ehlinger seems to be the guy now. But he's going to get injured multiple times next year so Shane will get playing time.

Malik Jefferson is a stud, gotta give someone credit for keeping that one.

I don't think they will. Jefferson, Hill and Elliot, I think all bolt for the draft

Anyone in Texas backfield will struggle to stay upright. The only way a Texas QB has a chance is to go to a true spread, dink and dunk. I don't see a lot of improvement and maybe another 6 win season or at best 7 or 8 wins. They have no identity on offense and most of their proven players on defense, I predict leave. I could see true freshman running the offense, again for Texas.

OkieLite rebuilding, bigtime. WVU, is a Grier thing, so if he leaves, they're fucked. TCU and OU will have new QB but both have better coaching and better players. KSU, ISU and TT could beat a average Texas team.

I meant during recruiting. I remember thinking we had a shot at flipping him, but Texas kept him.

This is, unfortunately, ALL TRUE.....you know I HATE YOU GUYS RIGHT NOW

Defensively Texas will be fine......the biggest area of concern will be the front 4, in terms of depth.

The major problem is OL. Those guys simply can't block, run or pass. They can't learn the scheme, zone blocking is OUT OF THE QUESTION, and it appears they can't do the basics, like run block, which is mostly just blowing up the guy in front of you. Even if we had all 5 stars on that line I don't trust the coaching.

The young QBs are doing what young QBs do......make mistakes, ESPECIALLY when they're seeing rushers every play. On one series, Ehlinger had to throw the ball away 3 STRAIGHT TIMES AGAINST THE TEXAS FUCKING TECH PASS RUSH

The only player on that line worth a damn is going pro.

We are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucked

Mayfield's numbers completely blow Landry's numbers out of the water. He's averaged 3 more yards per attempt than Landry did as a Sooner not to mention he's only thrown 10 fewer touchdowns despite having almost half the pass attempts Landry did (2183-1099). That's crazy. Also, he has a much higher COMP% (70.1% to 63.6%).

ONeal is going to Clemson.......you heard it here first

We’ll see. He and White may recruit each other to Norman, but I’m not too certain about that. We need to pull in at least one more safety between he, Proctor, and Woodbey.

You guys don't really want O'Neal......trust me on that. You're better off if he goes to Clemson.

Brown and White are good takes tho, if you can get them. Texas is going to fight you for White. Brown is following Terry Price, so if he gets retained by Aggy he's not leaving.

It should improve, but I don't see 10 wins. Texas has a chance to go 7-6 with a bowl win, that would be the best season since 5 years ago. You don't undo 7-8 years of poor development and mismanagement in 12 months. I could see 8-9 wins, especially since I expect the Big 12 to take a step back next year
