And most of the championship roster was recruited directly by Urban and that was his 3rd year. This is my point. How are you guys not upset about having the highest paid coach in the nation at one of the most prestigious programs while looking at possibly 8-4 in his 3rd season?
Because the situations are still vastly different. Taking over a healthy team/roster is different than starting from trying to turn a team around who's sucked for the previous 8 years. I'm not happy about it, but i understand it.

I wouldn't say they sucked for 8 years. They won 9 games in 07, 11 games in 11, and 8 games in 12. Also how was michigan's roster not healthy last year? They had a shit load of highly rated talent from the Hoke days that was finally starting to mature and you still lost 3 games. Even your team this year is full of 4/5* guys.

But you had a more solid base than 99% of head coaches who are starting out. I will admit that comparisons between Michigan and Ohio State are unfair. But if Dantonio can win the BigTen his fourth year in the BigTen there is no excuse if Michigan can't do it next year.

The starters certainly were, it was unhealthy because it had this looming hole in the depth of the roster that is now exposed after those guys left.

But I thought you said during the offseason that they weren't going to miss much because they rotated so many guys in last season?

I'm wrong about things all the time. Add that to the list. Chalk it up to perpetually hopeful Michigan fan. Hey, but I was right about the defense.

I guess we see things different. I do not think Meyer is "developing" tOSU's defensive talent.

Of course he's not ... he's a head coach. Head coach who "develop talent" are micromanaging and they are ineffective. I am certain football teams follow a chain of command similar to the military ... that is the effective way to run an organization.

So, you're fine with him having the same record as Butch Jones in the last 11 games? The dude's in year 3 and his team is worse than it was in year one. This dude ain't a top 15 coach.
Am I happy with the state of the program? No. However a few things to consider here:

1) This is the first year of "his players"
2) They lost 11 total starters from last year's team, 9 specifically from the defense alone
3) They are still better than under Hoke and or Rich Rod

Far from a finished product, but he is not going to be fired anytime soon

While I get your point, you cannot say that the development or lack thereof is not affected by the head coach

Everything is affected by the HC all the way down to the water boy. But when I look at who is developing the defensive talent at tOSU it is not Meyer.

Exactly. Which brings me back to one of my original points -- I don't think many people remember what Michigan was like under Hoke or Rich Rod. This defense is unlike anything remotely close to what we saw under either previous coach. And yeah, the offense has problems. It's young and will learn. It's not like we love losing games, but I understand it at this point. I'm pretty confident in this staff's abilities to turn things around, if not this year -- then next.

Brady Hoke at least managed to beat Ohio State in his first season.

You have to wait another 3-4 years for Harbaugh to get all of his guys in and he develops a QB. We can judge him until he gets a decent QBb.

Michigan doesn't have any QBbs. No wonder they're struggling!

which was nice, but we haven't beaten a ranked OSU in forever (2003). :(

I feel you pain, hoss. I'm 26 and UGA has only beat Florida 6 times in my lifetime, and 3 of those were Will Muschamp's first 3 years at Florida.

Go back & read my # 40 comment. I gave a couple of examples of HC's this century that accomplished a lot w/i 2 to 3 years. Which I thought was a fair amount of time to since JH is in his 3rd year in ann arbor.
