And while I get that the playoff is a long way off and we should be concerned with whats in front of us, anything short of another appearance in the CFP this season is a major disappointment in my eyes

Before the season I predicted 11-1 and when asked I said anything over 10-2 is still a successful season.

There are very few programs to which a less than perfect run or less than playoff appearance every single year should mean it's not a good season. I wouldn't accept anything less than 10 regular season wins with the defense they have and their staff, but college football is too chaotic to be playoffs or bust every year.

Of all of the kids lost last year Ross is obviously the one they couldn't replace and have felt it all year.

That and they had damned well better find a fucking outstanding kicker before next fall or whoever they trot out there will face nothing but boos every time they come on the field.

I give them a 10% chance of making the playoffs this year and as long as they find a way to win the north and finish strong I couldn't possible not still call it a good year, it simply wasn't an outstanding year.

Really? I'll gladly take another conference title and a new years bowl. They aren't gonna be a playoff team every year, and were probably there earlier than they should have been last year. Nothing but good things ahead for the Dawgs. Bit if your expectations are playoff every year, you're gonna be disappointed a lot. There are two fan bases who can reasonably have that expectation every year, we're not one of them.

You're right, they won't be a playoff team every year. Which is why they need to take advantage of having this good of a team together before everyone graduates. We can recruit pretty well but after Browning and Gaskin leave I think we might have a little difficulty reloading and being this competitive. You never know when the window will shut

You know, I started off on similar line, but then I couldn't really put anyone but Bama in that every year thing. Who was your #2? I mean currently Clemson has been there for a couple of years, but 3 years ago it was 3rd place in their conf and the russle athletic bowl. I can't quite put them in 'every year' status. Ohio State is yeah sort of near Bama status I guess? :noidea:

And then no one else. Sure, oky fans will claim they should be up there, but not really.

UW will need a few cycles of improving recruiting classes and results on the field to have any chance of getting up near that level.

I don't know, they need upgrades on the o-line, they've got veteran guys now and they haven't been good enough, the D is gonna reload, my biggest fear there is losing the coordinators, they've been stacked at running back for years now it seems, and the young guys getting time this year look great. It always sucks to have to replace a good QB, but browning is not the end all be all. This team will be competing for Pac 12 titles for years to come, and playoff spots will come with that.

I don't think Browning is the last great hope. He will go down setting all sorts of school records and I love the kid, but he has flaws that have cost us games.

Sirmon has all kinds of abilities Browning doesn't. Way too early to know if he can make the leap, but I really can't wait to see it. And they have had 4*+ QB's lining up to come play for them. It's really the only thing that gives me pause about cutting Smith. He can get QB's to want to join here and that's huge.

Ahmed looks like a next gen RB behind the ones we have now.

Couple of RS WR's really make me drool. And they are getting more talent in.

Keep Lake and I wouldn't worry about the secondary at all. Even a little bit.

This isn't a 'window' thing. It's the start of something big. Really big. Petersen and his methods win.

I fully expect an odd 9 win year with injuries or just shit happens and outside of that I expect 10+ from this staff and I have no doubt we will see that more often than not.

This is only the beginning my brothers. We aren't in the same boat Oregon was a few year ago. This ship is just setting sail!

Osu was who I was thinking. They aren't Bama, but they've already been a couple times, and voters/committee members/media like them.

I'd kill just to be in Clemson's shoes on the next tier about now, but that's pie in the sky until the depth gets going. They need a new leader for that O line IMO. Fix that and this team goes for the moon.

This is absolutely a window thing. I totally have faith in Peterson and his recruiting abilities but the wheels can come off quick. Personally, I'm not satisfied with just being good in the Pac 12, which is a lousy conference as of right now. Maybe I'm just a dreamer but ever since Jake threw that opening TD against Bama back in January I've been left wanting.

I go back to the Jim Owens era and have seen a lot of husky games in my day. Even under the Dawg Father they didn't stay on top every single year. I remember well sitting on the edge of my seat every game hoping they find a way to keep the streak alive and not get tripped up somewhere, and inevitably getting tripped up somewhere and just praying they still had enough to get a high ranking. That was back when ranking was really the only thing.

Now a 12-1 season most likely gets you a shot at the playoffs. You have some margin of error. I just don't worry anywhere near as much as I did back then. Maybe just because I'm older, or maybe because winning a national title now no longer requires perfection.

We will just have to agree to disagree about this being a window that will close. They are trending up and finally starting to see some of those 5* type kids giving serous looks. There is one from Idaho right now basically looking at UW or Ohio State. It will take time to turn more of those and turn that into higher depth and higher play on the national stage.

I am 1000% sure this is only the beginning and the best is yet to come.

Like I said I have faith in the recruiting and I don't think we're running out of time. But I also didn't think we were gonna lose on the road to ASU. When we have a team this good I just hate to see squandered opportunities because you just never know for sure how well you'll perform in the coming years

You know AG started a thread about "does a 12-1 UW Team get in?"

And to be honest right now knowing what this team can and can't do, I don't want them to get in if their not built to win it yet!

I know that's a shitty comment, but why hype it if it's going to lay an egg ....

Anything can happen once you're there. Upsets do happen, just look at what happened to UW, Clemson and WSU.

My prediction was that we had a 50% chance at 11-1, a 20% chance of 12-0, a 20% chance of 10-2 and a 10% chance of 9 wins or less. My bigger concern is who the loss was to. Josh Rosen somehow coming in and carving up the Husky defense, or UW losing on the road to Stanford or to WSU in the Apple Cup. Those all seemed plausible. ASU is one of the teams I'd least expect to lose it, even on the road. I still do believe that UW is better than every team remaining on the schedule, but hiccups happen.

If we went 10-2, it wouldn't be a disaster, but it wouldn't exactly be thrilling. If we go 10-2 and win the conference, I'd be okay. If we went 10-2 and didn't win the conference it would be kind of disappointing.

I'm not all that optimistic about next year, to be frank. I think Browning has hit his ceiling and is now limited by his physical abilities. Trey Adams will be recovering from an ACL tear, Vea likely heads to the draft, Gaines may follow. (Shelton and Lavon) Coleman, Pettis, Azeem, and Bierria all graduate.

I think it'll be much more difficult for us to replace Vea, Gaines, Pettis, Azeem, Bierria and both Coleman's than it would be for us to replace Kevin King, Budda Baker, Sidney Jones and John Ross. UW had much better depth in their secondary (where we were hardest hit) than any other position group. The Huskies are not very well equipped to replace Vea, Gaines, Azeem, Bierria and O'Brien IMO.

In a contradiction to my prior post, fun fact: Salvon Ahmed would have more rushing yards than Lavon Coleman if his 50 something yard run on that end around vs. ASU wasn't called back. Looked like there was indeed a hold on the play, but I do not believe that was what sprung him.

If you want my opinion about how Browning will do his senior season you first have to answer me if any of his younger WR's step up. Does McClatcher come back and kill it. Do the TE's play solid in the passing game. And of course, what kind of line will he have. Give him weapons and a decent line and I think he does well. Ahmed will be just fine in the backfield.

By the time Sirmon comes in I think they are on the climb again. One of those QB's coming in hopefully hits the ground running and makes us not miss Browning at all.

Yeah agreed!

I think that's half the battle right now with the passing game, Jake is having trust issues, to a fault some of these younger guys are required to run a certain route, and sometimes they vary off of the route by a step or two, Jake's not one to turn the ball over so if he doesn't like it he'll pull it down and run with it...
