Really. The Yankees have beaten the Twins in, what, seventy-three straight playoff games?

Twins may not make it. Not sure I want to face Trout in a one game playoffs. Angels are only 1 out

Yea it probably isn't going anywhere. I like the idea of a 5th playoffs team. Just wish it was a best of 3 series in a 1-2 format.

My problem with it is the time the division winners sit.

I have a strong reverence for the outcome of a 162-game series. If a team wasn't good enough to take care of business in that time, I don't mind if they get fucked in the wild card game.

I definitely do.

Its like getting a free game 7 each postseason.
Yeah but then afterwards I feel meh. After a Game 7 or a Game 5 divisional round, I feel like I watched a great series. After the one-game playoff I just feel that the team won Game 1 and then automatically got to advance.

I hear you but sometimes it isn't about that. You just play in a division with a great team. Can you really say a team who finished with 94 wins and 2nd best record in the league didn't take care of business because the division winner won 97 games while they end up facing a WC team who won 87 games or something? This was just an example btw. Not sure this happened yet.

Fuck, I hope the Twins/Angels and/or Rockies/Brewers tie for those 2nd wild card spots.

They'd have something like four games against four different opponents in four different cities in five days. That would be bad ass.

Dude it has nothing to do with the Yankees. I just don't see how a team can say they made the playoffs if they lose in that one game garbage. Just don't think it is very fair but as @SlinkyRedfoot said it is here to stay.

I can dig that.

Maybe we should shift our perception of the Wild Card teams. As in they didn't win their division, so they're not in the playoffs. They have the opportunity to be in the playoffs if they beat the other team who wasn't good enough to win its division.

That's cool.

One man gathers what another man spills, I guess.

It's been pretty popular thus far, so I don't think it's going anywhere. Might want to get used to it.
Popular according to who? The media? The commissioner? Neither are the voice of the people.

Yes. A team's first goal is to win their division. If they didn't do that, they didn't handle their business.

You're absolutely right, given the divisional format, it's entirely possible that a wild card team could be better than a champ from another division. We have divisions though. Life's not fair.

I heard all yankee away games will be played at citifield to save on jet fuel. But that cross town traffic sure is a bitch.

Ratings for those games are really good.
It's a sudden death scenario. Of course the ratings will be good. But that, in itself, is not evidence that the fans prefer a one-game playoff format over a three-game or a five-game.
