Trade to then Astros went through, what a joke. Avila is garbage. Those two prospects better being climbing the prospect rankings. And they could have atleast gotten the number 2 prospect Whitley whom is a lefty.

They are saying Detroit is paying $10mil to Hstn. I don't know if that includes what remains of this year's salary or not. Verlander get around $4.6mil each month. If their total payment towards Verlander's contract is just $10mil, that isn't bad....I was expecting more to get anything decent in return.

The return: Franklin Perez (Hstn's #3 prospect) and Daz Cameron (#9) are Top 100 prospects. Rodgers is Astros #11 prospect - a defensive oriented catcher. Not a bad haul IF they only paid $10mil back. My only complaint is that all three probably won't be on the major league roster until 2019. Perez is only 19.

Detroit cleared around $144 million off their books in one day. Next years team salary just fell by $50mil
Now for the tricky stuff....Zimmermann and VMart.

All in all, this is the best trade Al Avila made this year. The Tigers getting two Top 100 prospects AND only paying $10 mill of what's left on Verlander's approx. $60 mill guaranteed (counting this September) is about as good as anyone could have expected. They would have had to kick in at least another $10 mill to get Whitley. My hunch is Houston was never going to put Whitley on the table.

If the $10mil payment remains true....I'm satisfied with the trade. I'd give it a "B". It would have been nice to get one major league ready player, but the trade did give the Tiger's minor league system a shot of respectability.

What CBS Sports says about the prospects we got:

The 19-year-old Perez is one of the fastest rising pitching prospects in baseball. Though he's just a teenager, Perez already demonstrates feel for four offerings. His most consistent pitch right now is his lively fastball, which sits at 92-94 mph, peaks at 96 and could add more velocity once he physically matures. His downer curveball projects as a future plus pitch, his fading changeup shows similar upside and his slider is developing nicely.

Cameron, 20, is the son of longtime big leaguer Mike Cameron and an outfielder like his father. He is hitting a robust .271/.349/.466 with 14 home runs and 32 steals in 120 Single-A games this season.

The 22-year-old Rogers is an elite defensive catcher who is hitting .263/.352/.472 with 18 home runs at two different Single-A levels in 2017.

Make no mistake, the Tigers added three high-end prospects in this trade.

Gonna be a bad two years folks. Gotta root for Verlander in Houston now.

2018-2019 simply went from being really bad to really REALLY bad. Not much difference to me.

I agree. Will be pulling for Verlander to get a ring.

I'm happy with both trades yesterday. At least the Tigers have defined that they are fully committed to a rebuild....I wish the Wings would do the same.

Total cash given to Astros is now $16 million and a PTBN?
A PTBN....???? I hope it is someone off the major league roster! LOL.

Looking at it from Astro's view...the $16mil means they will be essentially paying Verlander $20 million in each of the next two years.

Not too much of a difference, the Tigers are paying the price for going balls-out for a championship and couple of years ago. An intelligent rebuild is in order. The Tigers are still my team, but I will be rooting for the former Tigers out there. Verlander was a great asset to the Tigers and the Detroit area ... I wish him well on his continued path to the Hall of Fame.

More good news for Tiger's rotation....Fulmer to miss at least his next two starts with elbow problem.

However, Daniel Norris, who has been ineffective in his rehab starts in Toledo, will take Verlander's spot in the rotation. His 5.29 ERA probably makes him the current "ACE" of the staff, ahead of Boyd, Farmer, Zimmermann, and Sanchez who all have 6.00+ ERAs.

I used to really like JV. Now I can't stand the guy. F. houston.

:suds:

Tiger fans love the Rangers.....picking up that Fielder contract (that runs until 2020) was dang nice of them. Thanks y'all.

Most fucked up trade I have ever seen. Kinsler is one of my favorite, still is.

Norris is officially a reliever the rest of the season, from what I hear.

Not sure who our Ace is.

That one kid doesn't have an ERA yet, I think he gets the belt. Till tomorrow afternoon.
