From Bill Meltzer:

1) The Flyers tendered offers to the following seven pending restricted free agents: goaltenders Anthony Stolarz and Alex Lyon, plus forwards Scott Laughton, Mike Vecchione, Taylor Leier, Roman Lyubimov and Cole Bardreau. Tendering Lyubimov means the Flyers will retain his NHL rights even if the checking winger returns to the KHL next season.

2) The Flyers re-signed pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Mark Alt on Monday to a one-year, two-way contract. Although no longer considered an NHL prospect, mostly due to some limitations with the puck and injury setbacks, he is a steady and reliable defensive presence on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms' blueline.

Okay I know I'm late to this party, but I must say I am not thrilled with the Schenn move, Lehtara is horrible.

Schenn traded to Blues; Flyers acquire Morgan Frost, Jori Lehtera, first round pick

The Flyers obviously don’t expect him to snap out of the funk he’s settled into at even strength in his career, and he is clearly only a threat on the power play these days. 17 of his 25 goals last year came on the power play, and sure ... it’s good to have power play goals. But Schenn was borderline useless at even strength, and it’s clear that Ron Hextall was ready to move on from him as a result.
The exact same words can be used to describe Gee.

Ditto plus the 1st rounders we got for him are the 27th pick and next year probably mid 20's again. Schenn did a lot more than just score PP's in which he was the league leader and also near the top in PP points . He hit people went into corners blocked some shots a was a wing with the ability to play center in case of injury and was a 50 plus point guy. Not liking this one bit.

Also he has improved each year just as you would want him to do, yes he was a bit lacking this year at even strength but def not a reason for this stupid trade.

I look at the Schenn deal similar to the Hartnell deal. Except for Schenn we got two 1st round picks with it. Shorter, less expensive contract.

Plus, if you dig in to it, Schenn and Lethera are basically a wash at even strength. Points, possession, etc. Nearly identical. You basically traded 17 PPG's and 189 hits for two first round picks. That's an absolute steal.

I didn't want to trade Schenn, for the most part I liked him. But the value to this deal is far to much to turn away IMO.

I think Schenn's PP production can be replaced. Some of it will be replaced by whoever replaces him on the PP (Lindblom?), the rest can be made up with Voracek scoring a PPG or two this season and Ghost finding the net.

Ok, I'll give you a chance to argue with me. :D

Mason's career playoff stats - 2 wins, 9 losses, 3.37 GAA, .895 save %. That's terrible. I bring it up because I'm making a correlation between his inability to play well when he has competition for starts and his poor playoffs performances when he's also under pressure. Those 2 factors together speak to someone with poor mental fortitude, and someone you'll likely never win the Cup with. Is he a better short-term option than Neuvirth? Probably. Is he a good option for a team looking to win the Cup? No. So, given that this team is still a couple of years away from competing for a Cup, I don't really care who they sign for the next year or two. I just want to be sure they are giving the young guys some playing time.

That's a fair argument. And I don't want Mason for the long haul either. I think Carter Hart is the goalie when the Flyers win the cup. If Mason's contract demands exceeded 2 years, I wouldn't have signed him either. But I would take Mason for 2 years @ 5 mil per, over Neuvirth at 2 years @ 2.5 mil per.

Also, I look at the Lethera portion of the deal as Hextall maximizing his assets. Right now, the Flyers aren't ready to compete for the cup. So rather than try to open up space and sign terrible contracts like the one Oshie signed, he's leveraging that cap space and taking a bad contract from the Blues in exchange for high value draft picks. The reason they got 2 first rounders is because they took Lethera. If it was just Schenn for draft picks, it was probably a 1st and 3rd. At that point, I would not have done the deal. But by taking Lehtera and getting two 1sts, that's a good trade. Hextall used all the assets he had, including the ability to take on a bad contract, to improve the future.

Morgan Frost probably could've been had by us in the 44 slot which doesn't make him a first round pick even though he was taken in the 27th slot and the other number on pick we received will be mid twenties and Lethera is no where near as good as Schenn so to me this trade isn't a good one.

I think this is more the realization that we're not winning a Cup in the next two seasons, so why hold onto Schenn just for the power play production only to eventually lose him for nothing?

We do save $425k for the next two seasons and then the full $5.125 million in the third season when we need to be extending Simmonds, Provorov, Konecny and Sanheim with still one year of MacDonald left.

I'm not going to question when we took Frost if our scouts think he's a 1st round talent and eventual impact player for us. Our 1st round pick next season will be an even better player in a stronger draft and very likely taken earlier than 27th overall.

This was a move made for the future, but now it begs the question of what we will do with Simmonds, given he has only those two more seasons left and then could go to free agency.

Regardless, if either of these 1st round picks becomes a top six forward for us, then we've won this trade.

Well if they do become a top 6 we won the trade but we already had a top 6 forward that we didn't have to hope would turn into a top 6. As for Simmonds he only scores on the PP so i guess Hexy would be looking to trade him next draft.

I have always liked Schenn and thought he is a natural goal scorer. From advanced statistics (which I am not a big fan of) show that his 5 x 5 play outright stinks. 2 1st is a significant hall for him. I think Lethera may end up as our 4th line Center (which is a hell of a hit for 4th line). The biggest concern is replacing 20+ goals on a team that struggles to score.

Not arguing that Lethera is as good as Schenn, but two firsts and Lehtera is more valuable than Schenn IMO. Probably won't see improvement on the ice this season (though I don't think there will be a big drop off), but they most likely will be in the future.

Also how about Ratcliffe Las? Gotta like that pick right? 6'6 winger, rated as high as #15 by some, taken at #35.

This is pretty much us hoping one of these guys even makes it to the bigs when we already had a top 6 forward in Schenn
