Not sure what the point is in regards to my post since I have been one of Cousin's biggest supporters since the day he was drafted. :noidea:
i posted yours to be fair that some advocated for resigning him if he met certain expectations . you are correct

People can't have a change of heart or mind now?
that is what is meant by moving the goal posts . if theoretical you states if he "does it again " then i support the resigning and he in fact did what was asked and you still say meh i am not convinced he needs to do this this and this , then you moved the goal posts . now i understand people will tap dance around the wording such as change of heart and mind but that will lead people to believe there is more to it , such as chasing the elite guy or residual angnst that the guy they wanted failed

The Skins can't match? Why not? I thought the Sklns were flush with all this cash and as long as they don't sign Kirk to a 27 gazillion dollar contract. They'll be great far as the cap goes.

Now all over sudden the Skins can't match possible future offers from other teams. How can that be?

Because my dear hater, the devil is in the details. The Skins can afford to give him a deal that matches say Lucks, or even a bit more.

What they cant afford to do is front load the bonus money of said named deal, unlike teams like the Niners, Browns and Jets would be able to do. And that would be mainly due to the fact that the Skins willingly choose to drive up what Kirk will cost because they wanted to play the lets bank on him failing game.

But Im sure you disagree, so let me break it down for you..

The Skins are set to have 58M in cap space next year
The Niners are set to have around $118M in cap space.

If the Niners offer him $130M with $70M Guaranteed, and they decided to have $50M of that 70M count as prorated bonus in year one, the Skins CANt match that exact offer. And that homey is why the only way the Skins win at this stage is to sign him long term now, or use the Exclusive rights tag next year. If they put him on the trans tag, some one will make him an offer that the Skins cant match or they wont make him an offer at all and Kirk would simply play on the tag again and leave in 2019.

You can not forecast cap numbers now. Players get released and contracts get changed every year. That is so bogus. Why even waste your time even figuring that out.

Really Dean?? What do you think Scot Schefers JOB is?? To forcast cap impact of deals now and in the future. Just because it doesnt fit into your argument Doesnt mean you can dismiss it.

Fact, the Nines currently have $71M in cap space. Now even if they ONLY carry $50M of that into next year, that would give them $104M in cap space. The concept that we could simply match any offer he gets is foolish because the numbers dont add up in our favor.

You can't predict what happens to player contracts next year. Haven't you ever heard of current players redoing their existing contracts? Teams can do so many things to get players deals done to stay here. When it comes down to the brass tax a deal will be done.

Plus we wont have to match any offer next year if KC signs a LTD before all this nonsense even happens next year. I just cant wait to see this deal if the deal gets done by 7/15.

Franchise-tagged QB Kirk Cousins says extension talks with the Redskins have been "really positive."

"As one person told me, Deadlines do deals," said Cousins. "That’s just kind of a rule in negotiating, so why would something happen way before a deadline? I’m not in a hurry, they’re not in a hurry, so we’ll just see how things go." The Redskins have been talks with Cousins since the start of the offseason, but haven't gotten anywhere. It sounds like Cousins is still open to an extension if his demands are reached. Washington has until July 15 to work out a deal.

Plus why would KC sign now before Stafford and Carr?

What makes you think they will just bend over and do a long term deal if Kirk plays on the tag this year?? More to the point, why would Kirk want to do that??

Im calling it now, no matter how well Kirk plays this year, unless we win a Lombardi you and a few others will FIND reasons to say, we shouldnt sign him long term and should look at drafting a QB to save the cap space. There will be those screaming, any average QB could do it with the amount of talent we put around Kirk, and imagine what Brady, Rogers or Luck would have done on this team.

Because Stafford and Carr's deals are not likely to get done before JUly 15th and moght not get done until the beginning of the season. And because the last time the Redskins tried to wait for another team to set the market, it turned out the market was more than they wanted to spend apparently

It really isn't. It is a fact. We can't march teams that have twice the amount of cap space.

all speculation for next year. So many things can happened with player contracts.

I don't think a LTD will be done this year. I already said this.

Neither do I. But you have proven, you dont want a long term deal done this year. And i suspect you dont want a long term deal done with Cousins period.

You know Dean, it would probably be very liberating to just come out and say it.

You know what I mean, just admit you dont want Kirk as our long term QB under any circumstance. Its ok Dean, no one will think less of you. And some might actually find your admission admirable.
