we will be fine if kirk leaves through the draft or FA we will get a qb

This post is based on what exactly? Take away one year wonders Rypien, Brad Johnson and Griff we haven't had a viable LONG TERM ANSWER at QB since Theisman in the early 80's. Cleveland hasn't had one since Bernie Kossar. The Bears had a few years out of Jim McMahon, that has been there only good QB since Sid Luckman. You think I'm kidding? List of Chicago Bears starting quarterbacks - Wikipedia

Let that sink in.

This. :agree:

It just amazes me that there are those out there that think picking up a franchise QB is just a matter of going to the local convenience store and pulling one off the shelf. History has proven that it is extremely hard and luck is more involved that talent evaluation. You will almost never pick one up via FA as no one lets a good QB walk (well, almost no one......except us). Therefore your best bet is the draft. OF which 75+% of highly rated QBs drafted fail.

If you want to continue to trot out the argument that we will be "fine" seeing as there are good QB prospects in the next draft, while totally ignoring the fact that the vast majority of "good prospects" in the NFL draft never come close to producing what Kirk has produced, then you should expect more critical posts. It's just that simple, your position is simply not backed up by the facts.

We were a little over .500 with Kirk putting up a top 6 season. With an average QB we would have been a 6 win team. With a below average QB we probably win 3 games.

We shouldn't let a good qb go however KC will never be good enough for some of you . You all laid down the "let's see it again " guanlet and you would be " convinced " he does it and you all move the goal post

We can roll the dice on a new qb and he might be good 3 years from now . However some corp guys will become long in tooth

Smart move is get the deal done

Interesting. our not even Franchise QB beats the Elite QB in almost every category. But of course those numbers are padded. OR they are so good because he had a good receiving corps. Or they are a product of the offensive system he played in. Or excuse #4, 5, 6........

We could search another 20 years and might not find a QB that can match this production, system driven or not. KC's key attributes to this success is his accuracy (which is very good) and his pre reading of the defense making quick decisions and getting the ball out. This last attribute is all about his dedication and hard work in the offseason. He is not the most gifted QB in the league (probably not even in the top 50%), but he works hard to identify and overcome his deficiencies. Which is why it boggles my mind that there are some who say he has peaked. All he does is work hard to be better. Unlike some we have had who believed they were the final product and just needed to show up. And some of those who say KC has peaked and is a "pretty good" QB are the same ones that were on the bandwagon for Griffin who was the exact opposite of KC and now currently out of the league. Unbelievable.

Sorry if I missed it @j_y19 but what was the significance of July 15 again?
That is the cut off date for negotiating contracts mandated by the league. All new deals have to be done by the 15th or they play under their existing deal for the season. So if KC and the team can't come to terms on a long term deal by the 15th he has to play under the tag this year.

Which criteria has Luck been better over the last two seasons?

The Skins offense and KC had better stats all the way around than the Colts offense and Luck expect for these categories.

Luck threw 31 TD passes, 5th highest total
KC threw 25 TD passes, 12th highest total

TD/INT ratio.
Luck 31/13
KC 25/12

Total points scored/points per game
Colts 411/25.7 - Rank #8
Skins 396/24.8 Rank #12

Those 6 extra TD passes or 15 extra points could've came in real handy for the Skins.

Luck also had a better defense and fumbled a lot. He took more sacks which put his team in worse situations and put Luck's health at risk.

All while playing in one of the worst divisions in football.

Thing is, Bruce is doing everything he can to spin this as Kirk being the reason a deal has not gotten done. And sure if you think Kirk should just take whats offered, I guess it would be all on Kirk. But Bruce has made it a point to offer a deal he knows Kirk wont take. So where is the real issue here??

Williams is signed through 2020 and in 2021 when he will be a FA, we are slated to have over $159M in cap space.

Scherff is signed through 2018 and we have better than $100M in cap space scheduled for 2019.

The whole we need to make sure we have cap space line is bullshit. Because even if they gave Kirk $125M guaranteed for the next five years, we would still have the cap space or flexibility to make it work.

Some one doesnt want it to work. At least not with the QB in question.

I get that it was just a thought.

But as i have said for a while now, money is not the issue. Kirk not being a good QB is not the issue, because he is a good QB.

The issue is, Kirk simply is NOT an exciting enough QB. He isnt what would be considered elite. And I think many fans would rather continue to chase elite, rather than settle for good. And money is just being used as the final excuse to continue to chase elite.
