It’s highly unlikely that Matin will be first ballot.

His comparison isn’t Allen. It’s Randall McDaniel.

Mcdaniel had 13 pro bowls (more than Martin) and 9 All Pro years (same as Martin). Like McDaniel and unlike Allen, Martin never played in any significant games. In his entire career Martin played in only 3 playoff wins.

Like Mcdaniel, he will have to wait a year or two to get in. Martin was unbelievably good. But no one is going to place him in the top 5 guards of all time. And without that and without significant historical wins, he isn’t getting in on the 1st ballot.
well 1st off. If he wasnt 1st ballot it doesnt mean anything to me since we all know he will be in.
However I dont buy into everyones what important game did a player play in.
That is saying you cant be the best or an all pro on a shitty team.
Joe thomas only played on shitty teams & everyone knew. He was the shit. So Superbowls & playoff wins shouldnt mean dick for the HOF. The HOF is for the individual thing not how good of a team they played on. Granted. Some players make the HOF because they were on excellent teams & made them look good, but that doesnt stop all stars on bad teams from making the HOF.
McDaniels was considered one of the tops in the league. Martin was considered the best guard for several years. The fact is. even in those losses that you want to say makes him not earn 1st ballot. He still did what he always did. He wasnt shitting the bed in big games. The team did. & when they look at him & how well he did his job. Stats like wins & losses wont matter, He will be 1st ballot.
Unless it is a year where several icons are in the same group.

Side note. I dont think you were saying this, but for others. I am not comparing Martin to Allen. My point when I brought up Allen was to the guy that said OGs never get in on 1st ballot.
I think Allen is the only player (could be wrong) to make more than one all decade team.

The only drawback I could see for Martin not getting in in 5 years is the fact he is a cowboy. I think with all the publicity the Cowboys get, it sometimes delay a player from getting in. Like voters are countering that. So if he played for some other shitty team there would be zero doubt he is a 1st ballot. Right now I considering next to zero doubt he is 1st ballot.

made me think about this. So I looked up another Guard I thought might have been a 1st ballot HOFer.
So I present to you.

Not only was he 1st ballot HOFer, but he also on more than one all decade team (apparently there are a few players)
Of course my 2 examples are the two I think are the greatest guards in NFL history so you can argue against me because of that, but we can lay to rest that Guards are never 1st ballot.

2 more.

Shaun Alexander is top 20 in all time TDs and EVERYONE (yes everyone *edit* well I guess AP isn't in, because he smacked his child - kid prob. deserved it the little shit) in that category is in the HOF... but he'll never even sniff it. Cause Seattle. Put him on the Jets or Giants or Patriots or some stupid ass East coast team and he'd already be in.

But he had Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson and never won a Super Bowl! Well... Barry Sanders never even visited a Super Bowl... yah the OL wasn't as good, but so many RBs that get in have a great OL.
