I haven't seen much talk about the ballot on here (maybe you all are going out to the main MLB forum for that) so I thought I'd pose the question: If you have the ability to vote for this year's group of eligible players, who would you vote for? Would you use all 10 ballot spots available? Do you think that voting should be unlimited, in that each voter should get to vote for as many, or few, players as the voter would like?

Here are the ten players I'd vote for:

No Brainers
Barry Bonds
Roger Clemens
Ken Griffey, Jr.

Some reservation, but deserve it
Mike Mussina
Curt Schilling
Jeff Bagwell

Borderline but look at their career WAR
Larry Walker
Alan Trammell
Tim Raines
Edgar Martinez

Walker is the most suspect of the 10 I'd vote for simply because I don't know what he would have done if he never played at Coors Field. I may well replace him with Mark McGwire on this list.

Barely missing the cut were Jim Edmonds, Gary Sheffield, Mike Piazza, Sammy Sosa, Jeff Kent and Fred McGriff. The rest of the ballot I don't mind seeing slip off the ballot.

To me, there are two "pairs" on the list that you can't split. If you vote for one, you HAVE to vote for the other, and if you don't vote for one, you can't vote for the other. Bonds and Clemens are the first "pair" and Sosa and McGwire are the other.

For me, Bonds/Clemens is a no-brainer.

McGwire/Sosa is a tough case that I have gone back and forth on over the years. Sosa's numbers were almost Bonds-esque, but not only does he have "the stink", but has the cork-thing on top of it. McGwire's numbers were surprisingly dominant as well. He has a rep as a pure power hitter, but his BA was actually somewhat respectable and his OPS+ was dominant throughout his career.

As for the ballot itself, I think it needs to stay at 10. If you can't get on as one of the top 10, you are not a HOFer.

My ballot this year...

Bonds
Clemens
Griffey
Piazza
Raines
Trammell
Kent
Bagwell
McGwire
Sosa

Another question for this thread...

Who do you think will actually get in this year?

I think Griffey is a lock.

Bagwell, Piazza, Kent and Raines are the only others that I think have a chance.

If this article is any indicator, it looks like it will be Griffey, Bagwell, Piazza and maybe Raines.

Here's the link to all eligible players: 2016 Official Hall of Fame Ballot | Baseball-Reference.com

My real ballot:

Bonds
Clemens
Griffey
Bagwell
Mussina
McGuire
Sosa
Piazza
Kent
Schilling

Sheffield was awfully close. Considered Hoffman and Wagner, but closers aren't 1st ballot material to me. Kendall was considered because he was a catcher. Maybe a few years down the line.

Kent has the record for most HRs by a 2B. How much that counts IDK.

Trammell deserves to be in if Larkin is in. Look at their numbers.

I haven't looked at it yet, to say who I would list. But yes Bonds would be on my list. Regardless of the stink he was still the most feared hitter of his ERA.

The Larkin Trammell debate is coming up in the top 32 threads. I believe it is a lot closer than most think.

With six votes so far, it looks like we'd vote in 7 players this year:

Bonds - 100%
Clemens - 100%
Griffey - 100%
Bagwell - 100%
Mussina - 83%
Raines - 83%
Piazza - 83%

Barely missing the cut:
Schilling - 67%
Kent - 67%

Still on the ballot for 2016:
Walker - 33%
Trammell - 33%
Sosa - 33%
Hoffman - 33%
Martinez - 16%
Some dude name McGuire (SFGRTB, I'm looking at you!) - 16%
McGriff - 16%

Getting the boot:
Trammell - 33%, last year of eligibility
McGwire - 16% (okay, really 33%), last year of eligibility

As Obxy stated, he is one of the most prolific power-hitting 2B of all time. He was a middle-of-the-order bat on a pretty potent offensive team, has an MVP to his name...

I acknowledge he is no slam-dunk. But I think he does get in eventually, and he has a slim chance for this year.

What, you've never heard of Bill McGuire? He caught Randy Johnson once. Definite HOF
