he looked bad, but given it's March 21st it's basically a glorified spring training game. all of the starting pitchers in these first two games didn't look quite ready, except maybe Glasnow

we'll see how the first few months go, it can take some time for NPB pitchers to adjust. Darvish's first season was fairly rocky, though he pitched very well down the stretch to end up with a good season

If I remember correctly, Ohtani himself actually had a rough first spring training. When the lights went on for real, he was just fine.

We drove to AZ a few weeks ago to go to Dodgers training camp and got to see Yamamoto do a bullpen session. First time I saw him pitch.

His mechanics are unorthodox to put it mildly but had this odd flow to it that was EXACTLY the same every time. His foot stays close to the ground through the entire motion.

Same.

I didn’t believe it when I read it. Then looked it up. Was barely ten years ago before they even had a standard size ball. Guess the home team just decided what they were playing with.

Weird.

But I have no idea how guys throw such great breaking pitches with MLB balls. They’re smooth as hell and you can barely feel the laces. There’d be multiple no hitters every week if MLb used HS/college style balls with raised laces.
