From what I'm reading Mets made the exact same offer as the Dodgers.

He wanted to be on the west coast, clearly, as most of the Japanese players do.

And from what I'm reading (who knows what is true), the Mets made the offer and then he asked the Dodgers to match, which they did. Mets weren't given a chance to increase, he had his mind set the whole time and used the NY teams to increase his price.

The Mets made the initial offer and Yamamoto took it to the Dodgers who matched it. The Yanks had the highest per year offer but it was less years. Looks like he wanted to go to the Dodgers all along and used the Mets and Yanks to up the offer
