Is Jeter slotted for short? Would he shift to 3rd?

Maybe they can tell Jeter that Ripken shifted to third at the end of his career...

Remember when Arod pushed Ripken to short at his last All-Star Game? Ah, good memories...

I'd hold off on committing to a SS with Hanley Ramirez hitting FA next year.

He is already 30.

Don't the Yankees have any minor leaguers ready to come up? Surely they did not think Jeter would play forever...

They only thing that grows on the Yankees farm is money.

You'd think with all that money they could hire someone who knows what the hell they're doing with player development.

:noidea:

Hindsight is 20/20 but he probably should've jumped on that QO from the Sox. I like that the Mets aren't giving him more than 1 year. Next year's SS class is way better, signing this guy to 2 or 3 years you wind up A) overpaying him and B) Missing the boat on better free agents. He's in a tough spot, may need to swallow his pride and take a 1 year offer from somebody.

He was wearing a Sox uniform for only year, but Drew quickly became one of my favorite players. I'd love to see him stay on the Sox, but Bogaerts is ready. I don't know if Drew can really play 3rd and even then, they have Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks struggled last year, but he looked a lot better after getting called back up (he had 9/60 BB/K in the 1st half... 11/38 BB/K in 2nd, still not great by any means, but it's definitely an improvement). He was coming off a wrist injury in 2012 too.

You'd think.... But it isn't in the Yankees nature imo. They just want to get the "big name" and "win" that way.

E Nunez was suppose to replace Jeter, but then everybody realized Nunez would drop the ball if the batter ran out there and placed it in his glove.

If this is true, then, maybe he is not all that he is otherwise cracked up to be.

I am just reading that, as Drew is haing kind of a hard time finding a job, that he is now willing to consider switching positions.

I was just questioning if they were in... I hadn't read anything about it.

It would make sense for them since it is apparent that Rodriguez is out for the year. Drew could be had for a relatively cheap two year deal... Jeter could play his final year at third and the Yankees could have a plus defender at short stop for the first time in a long time....

Then with Drew on board for 2015, they would need to worry less if Rodriguez never returns and Jeter actually does retire....

Redsox and Mets seem to be the only 2 interested in him. Classic things the Mets do, wait it out and don't committ long-term to somebody, wait till they get desperate and sign a 1-year deal.

Even now, I don't think Jeter is moving for Drew. If they sign him he'll play 3B and then slide back to SS whenever Jeter decides he's done.

Even the most optimistic Yankees fans don't envision Jeter playing 162 games at SS. Drew is willing to play 2B/3B as well so he has value around the infield, which I'm sure you're well aware is not a strength.
