I could look up other examples but it's common knowledge around most of the world that the Yankees are fucking loaded.

It was over money and years. Remember, they originally wanted to stay under the $189 mil luxury tax threshold. But that obviously went out the window once they signed Tanaka

The years made no difference to this years luxury tax. They offered him $25 mil per year. The overall money builds up with the amount of years, but $25 mil per year was a lot. I think they paid him $24 mil per year.
