From all the articles I keep reading on Bengals.com and comments from Gruden...it is shaping up like this:

#1 - AJ Green

#2 - Armon Binns / Brandon Tate

In the running for #2 eventually - Sanu and Marvin Jones

On the bubble for last spot: Shipley and Hawkins

Are we really in jeopardy of losing one of Shipley or Hawkins?

I know if we wanted to we could PUP Shipley, but from all sounds he is real close to 100% right now.

Gruden is loving him some Binns and Tate right now. He is insisting that Tate is bigger, stronger and faster than last yearand almost if not back at his 4.4 speed before his knee injury.

I guess it is a nice problem to have, but on the same aspect, I had not seen enough of Tate to inspire me to want to part with Shipley or Hawkins. I guess Binns has been lighting the CB's up, not saying that will not be typical for any WR in the league this year, but he is having one of the best camps as of right now according to Gruden.

How much of this is lip service, and how much are we goign to have to prepare to lose a really good slot guy in Shipley or Hawkins? Almost like they are trying to prepare us for it now so it is not a shock later.

You can always keep an extra WR and go light somewhere else.

These things have a way of working themselves out. Let's not get over-excited yet.

As much as I root for Armin Binns, let's see how he does once it goes live in camp and pre-season games before we get too excited.

Shipley isn't going anywhere - The Bengals don't see him as a typical #1 or #2 receiver. He is a slot man. If you go back to last year, when the Bengals released the depth chart, Shipley wasn't anywhere near the top, but they still planned to play him on at least half of the team's offensive plays. He's a specialist and he'll likely go back to that role once he is healthy. The real question is whether or not there will be any room for Baby Hawk - He plays the same position as Shipley and I've never heard of a team keeping two guys that can only play slot.

It isn't me that is too excited, Gruden is acting like a kid in a candy store when talking about Tate and Binns. Just an observation from articles I have read and comments I have been hearing.

I feel like they want to keep Tate solely based on the fact that he's a "veteran", and not based on his ability.

Is that Hobspin hype on Tate and Binns? I might believe Binns, but Tate would still be in New England if he didn't suck.....

If Tate is rehabbed, he will get injured again, but not until we release Shipley (because we're the Bengals and he's a reliable receiver, do the math). We'll keep Hawkins, thereby dooming him to Injury as well. Binns will suck while stealing snaps from Jones and we'll be told that Sanu and Jones aren't ready every week. So basically we'll have Green and whatever pile of shit unsigned veteran who can't play anymore to replace Binns.

same shit, different year.
