But Dalton at least keeps gives some effort. Cutler in the AFC North vs. those defenses?

He'd quit and be on a beach somewhere as soon as he could.

Cutler has 2 all pro WRs, 1 all pro TE, a solid RB, and a better Oline now than he did with Lovie. I don't think anyone wants to go to war with the guy.

Would you?

Culter. Hands down. Even with the contract.

We're still an absolute minimum 2-3 years away from finding a QB of the future. Enough time for Cutler's deal to run out.

He has a much higher ceiling than Dalton. And would have a much better offensive supporting cast than he has in Chicago. And he would be a great fit for Hue's system.

At least we'd have more potential to actually go beyond the first round.

Fortunately they only have to play football with him, so I don't really care if they want to go to war with him or not.

Jay Cutler has thrown 332 passes when his team has been behind, a clear indicator that he's usually in scramble mode, which can make it tough to play quarterback in the NFL.

Even more telling, 213 of those passes have come when the Bears have been behind by nine or more points.

To put that in context, here are the pass attempts from behind for the quarterbacks of some of the league's best teams, with their attempts behind by nine or more points in parentheses.
Peyton Manning -- 228 (117)
Russell Wilson -- 148 (39)
Tom Brady -- 163 (67)
Aaron Rodgers -- 164 (69)

The disparity is unreal. It's a reflection of how poorly the Bears have been on defense this season, ranking dead last in points allowed. That leads to a quarterback pressing. That's when mistakes are made. Here's another stat: When Cutler and the Bears went to the NFC Championship Game after the 2010 season, he only attempted 63 passes when trailing by nine or more points.

Cutler has 18 interceptions this season, tops in the league, but only three of those have come in the first quarter, the fewest he's thrown in any quarter. Seven of his interceptions have come on attempts 30 and above in games. That's scramble mode.

Cutler has been bad sure, but he is in an absolute terrible situation. Chicago's defense is horrid, their Oline blows and he is in pure "I have to make a play and bring my team back" mode all the time. If you give him a decent defense and he doesn't have to push all the time he would be a good quarterback. He has the arm talent to do so. I'd take him over Andy every day.

As far as the contract goes, after this year it is essentially a 2 year, like 36 million contract. After 2016 you can cut him for nothing. So his contract isn't really that bad at all. Even if we drafted a QB early this year, that gives him some time to learn before you decide if Cutler is your QB of the future.

Well played, sir. You made some good points.

I think most of us here know, even if management doesn't, that there is no realistic future with Dalton.

You are under estimating Cutler's shitty me-1st attitude that no one has ever liked. "Going to War" essentially means going out and following a guy you will play lights out for. Not pack it in, because that's what Cutler does.

If you want Cutler, go for it. But he ain't gonna change. He's got more weapons now than most QB's in the NFL and he's leading the NFL in turnovers and lack of giving a shit.

It's really only a year longer than the contract with Dalton and if Dalton doesn't lead us somewhere this year, I'm not sure he will. He has had 4 years and has seemingly gotten worse this year. Cutler has undeniable arm talent, something Dalton doesn't. I'd take the risk personally, just so we didn't have to give up anything of real value.

I think everyone's hatred/mistrust/disappointment/etc of Dalton has given you blinders to how bad Cutler really is.

I live near Chicago where they still try to polish this Vandy turd, he's Jeff George 2.0:

Cannon of an arm?

Check.

Bad at reading defenses and not audibling out plays destined to suck?

Check.

Quitter and pouter?

Check.

Clubhouse cancer?

Check.

I realize Dalton's stunk it up this last month, but you guys should know he has the most TD passes IN THE LEAGUE since 2011, right?

<looks at favorite teams and can't BELIEVE he's defending teh Ginger Bengal >

Yes just a terrible situation with 2 all-pro WR's, all-pro TE, solid RB, and the Oline is better than when Lovie was there. The O-line just doesn't give a shit, just like their QB. It's contagious. Like Cancer!

Maybe if the Bears got Megatron too, they would give Jay a better shot at winning. :L

How the fuck is a QB in a terrible situation with 3 all pro weapons on offense and another RB that was a former all pro, and Oline that has improved since Cutler has arrived? You do realize that Cutler had similar issues in Denver and that's why they moved him right? Maybe the D is bad, but you can still score points with that kind of talent on offense. Or should be able to.. Let me guess, Cutler is leading the NFL in turnovers but it's not his fault right?

You must be some kind of genius.. I can't wait to hear this.

I just don't think you know much about how sports work. Thats the main reason I avoid you in all conversations on all other boards. I've maid my points. I don't need to remake them for you. His line is bad. His defense is one of the worst I've ever watched. You are more prone to turn the ball over when you are trying to make plays and come from behind every game while getting beaten up behind a terrible line.

Pretty bold statement that you assume since we disagree on Jay Cutler (LOL) that I know nothing of all sports..

Let me explain to you how cohesion works on a TEAM. A successful TEAM must have good chemistry for one and two, all players must buy in to the concept. In football, the QB has to lead by example and many other players are looking to the QB for leadership. I agree that Cutler's O-line is not a great one, but they are not horrible. The addition to Kyle Long last year made them pretty good, but the defense was not. The biggest problem on that Bears offense isn't lack of talent. It's chemistry and playing hard. They have alot of pieces on that offense! LOL Jay Cutler is a selfish SOB. He was the same way in Denver.

No matter how bad your defense is, you can't just quit. And that's what your boy Jay C does. Attitude is huge. And he's nothing but a cancer.

I assure you I know more about SPORTS and a TEAM concept than many many people in this world.

Why are you sticking up for such a crybaby QB that has never showed anyone anything different but selfishness and a poor me attitude? And why would you assume I know nothing of all sports? Try me lol

I can't believe I've never heard any of the ESPN football experts using this phrase before! Thanks for telling me that.

P.S. I really like your belt.

Doug.. I'm a Rams fan. We haven't had a good QB in years. And I wouldn't want Cutler no matter what. I should have just chimed with CANCER. and left it at that. He sure hasn't made anyone around him better, anywhere he's been.

Sorry for high jacking your thread.

Eh, he does this on the general boards too. Not many people pay him much attention. Numerous players have came out over his career and said Jay cares and that he isn't selfish. It's just the easy, media driven bs that people want to pick out whether it's true or not.
