To be fair, clippard was lights out the night before.
One of his only good performances this postseason. Not suggesting you abandon him, but in a tight, near must-win game, I think you gotta put the bigger outs on Reed.
I didn't mind leaving matz in. He was cruising and I'm still trying to figure out how such a weakly hit ball by cain got through anyway. I would've rather him leave Matz in than burn Niese for 2 outs.
He was cruising through four. He got himself in some trouble in the 5th because he was missing his spot (and it could have been worse, but Moose missed a pitch very similar to the one Gordon drove into right). Absolute best case scenario, he gets three more outs. I would have PH for him, then went with Niese to start the sixth (Zobrist, Cain, Hosmer, and Moose if someone gets on). With Morales already out of the picture, and that being the part of the line you'd ideally use him for, I don't see any upside waiting there. That sets up Colon/Clippard (vs the bottom of the lineup), Reed, Familia.
And he skipped Herrera because he had thrown a ton already this series, including last night (way too much).
He only threw 16 pitches in game 3. You may be thinking of game one, where he threw 35. I don't think he was unavailable, but maybe Yost switched the order to see what would happen, then once the top of the 8th happened he just skipped ahead to Davis.
