Can't just place the blame on Clippard,or Familia......(imho that's on Collins)
Murphy's brain cramp was bad too, and he's accepted responsibility....but some of the blame should also go to Cespedes.....he had the clusterfuck hat trick...a snafu in the outfield that cost a run...some bad looking AB's, and then a blunder on the base paths that ended the game.
Cespedes looks more like Pele kicking the ball all over the OF

Gotta say, I'm rooting for a game 7 and Thor giving Moose some chin music. I think he will get that visitation at 60'6'' he requested....

If you told me after 4 games that the Royals would have scored 5+ runs in 3 of the 4 games against this pitching staff, I would not have believed you
Royale hit high velocity better than any other team in baseball. This is more to do with the Mets bats and gloves not being good enough

I hope so, but there are no guarantees. Our offense sucked for 90 games and then went nuts after the trade deadline deals. We may not be able the keep this team together for next year.

they can buy hitting

"Find a way to win"?

Horse excrement. They were given the game.

Murphy made a huge error, but if he makes that play, and everything else happens the way it did, Royals still win. Of course, we'll never know how the situation might have changed the results, but Cain had to come back from an 0-2 count to set that situation up, then Moose and Perez got legitimate hits, and Davis was Davis.

At the end of the day, the difference in this series is Davis vs Familia. That's a pretty huge difference this time of year.

I was thinking if Murphy makes the first play, then there are two outs, and he can play at normal position instead of DP depth for Moustakas's grounder, which just got under his glove. If he's not cheating towards second, he gobbles that grounder up for out 3. Maybe...

You're correct that we really don't know what would have happened. Maybe some Royal still cracks a double or puts one in the bleachers, but you just can't give a team extra outs when you've got them down.

Can't hate on Murphy after all he did to get us here.

wasnt really being critical its just so many blame the mgr or give him too much credit
is it collins fault murphy cant field a ball:suds:

Collins blew it the night before using his best relivers in a 6 run game.

If he doesn't he can do what yost did (YOST did ONE thing right like all night...and this was it) and let his star closer go 2 clean innings.

He gave Clippard too much rope last night.

This is exaclty what I was gonna say. I think he probably gets to that ground ball with eyes (man the royals had some grade A cheap hits that somehow go through last night).

But Collins and Yost have both been awful. It's a shame that one of them has to win because they've been in a battle of who can blow this series more the entire time.

Wouldn't Murphy playing at normal depth make it harder for him to get Moose's grounder? He wouldn't have to go as far, but his reaction would have to be even quicker, and he's not exactly the most athletic second baseman.

Collins blew it the night before using his best relivers in a 6 run game.

I suspect Collins used Familia in game 3 to help get his confidence back. He only threw 11 pitches, so I can't imagine he didn't get the 6-out save attempt because of that.

I thought Collins' handling of bottom 5th and top 6th was where he really got himself in trouble. Didn't PH Matz, then sent him back out for the sixth. Only after giving away a run, he switched to Niese, who got Hosmer and Moose, but then he burned Colon to get one out. That forced him to go with Reed (his best reliever this postseason) in the 7th, instead of saving him til the 8th, which would have negated the need for Familia to go for six.

The focus is on Davis being given the ball for six, after Familia wasn't, but I think the bigger issue may be that Yost went Hochevar-Madsen-Davis (skipping Herrera, who's struggled in this series), but Collins stuck with Reed-Clippard-Familia, despite Clippard struggling all postseason.

To be fair, clippard was lights out the night before.

I didn't mind leaving matz in. He was cruising and I'm still trying to figure out how such a weakly hit ball by cain got through anyway. I would've rather him leave Matz in than burn Niese for 2 outs.

And he skipped Herrera because he had thrown a ton already this series, including last night (way too much).

Bottom line is the Mets have given away 2 games. They're all but done.

I never thought I'd see Yost out manage anyone. But collins is making it look easy.

If he was willing to go to Familia for 6 outs, he had to.

That was basically a must win game. And had you not wasted familia the night before you could go with him for 2 last night and reasonably for 4 outs tonight.

In the playoffs you can't wait for a guy to get in a little trouble to pull him, you need to pull him before there's trouble. If you wait it could (and probably will) be too late. 3rd time through the lineup, there's no need to press your luck there in a close game. Turn it over to the pen and get the matchups that you want.
