I'll pay attention to it, but mainly to see if anyone gets injured. That is the goal, no injuries.

I'm sure USA will be favored, but as usual, they will implode. Venezuela looks like a great team on paper though.

I remember thinking about the same when they had the last one in 2009. Then Japan comes out of nowhere and takes it by storm just like they did in 2006. In 2006 they beat Cuba in the final and in 2009 they beat out South Korea. Would be nice to see them dethroned.

Merrica!

You don't want to see USA take Japan down this time? They won the last one.

I'll watch the games that I can, will use the box scores to pass time in meetings. But I'm more excited for ST than the WBC.

I hear that for sure. This is just kind of nice as some other form of baseball for entertainment to pass the time until opening day. :suds:

You know, it's sad we don't take the WBC more seriously. Perhaps if we did, we'd have had better success.

That could be. It seems to me like they try to drum this up in hopes that one day it will be as competitive as world soccer. But they have a long way to go for that to happen. Maybe if some sort of grudge was started between some teams it would get everyone more fired up about it.

If their plan is to have it be as competitive as world soccer, they have another thing coming. It will NEVER get to that stage.

True, but the WS is more popular here. If we didn't have the MLB, the WC would be bigger. But our players are more interested in the money, fame, and security that the MLB offers.

it will be hard for the US to ever win these world events in the major sports. The Olympics we will still do well in, but the ones where our guys can go pro and have millions on the line if they get hurt...the pro's will just avoid them. If the guys playing don't appear to take it serious, then the casual fan won't either.

I've been catching some of the games but it's always on early in the morning or late at night so I only see a little at a time. I have been watching a lot of ST games because I admit, I have a problem, but it has been pretty cool to see some actual competitive baseball rather than just simulated games going through the motions.

It's pretty cool to get up at 5 AM and a ballgame is on. I don't know how I ever lived without MLBN before I got it.

Cuba was up 3-0 on Japan last I saw before heading out to work. Cuba managed to put up three runs but this guy, Tanaka that was pitching for Japan actually looked really good. Wonder if we'll see him in the MLB someday.

I don't watch it simply because it's not guys going at 100%. If it came down to it the US would just dominate, but a lot of the top guys don't go, and I can't imagine pitchers are giving it their all. No need to throw out their arms in a meaningless game. That's why teams like Japan and Cuba will have success, this is their chance to be seen.
