Pretty sure Keith Butler is their choice from what I read. As for who I want......Jesus would do.

That's what I've been hearing.... Tomlin just wants a puppet so he can have more control over the D.
I think there are better suited coaches out there than Butler.

As expected...Butler has been named the new DC in Pittsburgh.

I'm fine with it...I don't think it means they stay with a 3-4 for certain though.

Me too! I wonder if there are any position coach changes comming or will Butler keep the current defensive staff mostly intact?

Tomlin influence...Just based on the personnel...I think we'll see more hybrid fronts, perhaps with some 4 DL fronts...I think the main thing he wanted to see from Butler was flexibility.

DEF Staff...I don't expect any wholesale changes.

The draft will shed a lot of light on scheme...if they don't go after an OLB within the 1st 3 picks...I think we're going to see a lot more 4 man DL front next year.

Tomlin specifically said something about becoming more multiple in his end of season press conference. I assume Butler would be on board, can't see them going all the way to a 4-3. I think their DL sets up nicely to play multiple fronts, Tuitt, Heyward, and McClendon could work in either scheme.

The linebackers not as much, at least not initially. It will take some more time.

With Butler becoming the DC...I'd doubt they go to a full blown 4-3 as well...definitely would take some time, but LBs imo would be able to adapt pretty quickly if they did...all the LBs already have coverage responsibility, the run support lanes are different.

SEA doesn't blitz a lot, but I like the overload options they employ when they do with a 4 man DL and use the faster LBs like Spence and Shazier on the blitz.

No way they stay 3-4.....

No one to anchor the line (NT) and Tomlin does not know the first thing about running it!!!

From Butler's presser it sounds like he is going to run both 3-4 & 4-3. More of a hybrid defense that you see from teams like the Seahawks. Either way you look at it, both schemes run essentially the same way. The OLBs are just DE's and vice versa. I could care less which they roll with, but I would agree that the personnel is more suitable for the 4-3. We shall see!

The defense we already ran was very much like what Butler is talking about... Hybrid...

But one thing is for sure... I think we are going to see much more of Tomlin's influence on the defense. I think he & Butler will together build this new look defense with more of an emphasis on the 4-3.

Well if he tries to instill his Tampa 2 bullshit, we have the wrong DB's for that job without a doubt!!!!

Yea I hope he's long since forgotten about the Tampa 2. But if they fire off a couple high-round draft picks for the secondary (CB's most likely) then he could try. Doubt Butler would want to run that.

I'm interested to see what they do in the secondary. I honestly know little of what they do now, mainly because of the standard TV view its hard to tell.

Tomlin started in the Tampa 2, so we might see more of that. Might be a way to mitigate the lower quality safeties the team currently has.

The team just signed a new Safety... Isaiah Lewis. UDFA of 2013 for the Bengals. From the pressers I've been reading he is a solid, hard-hitting, safety that everyone was shocked he wasn't drafted.

Good insurance for all the FA's the team currently has at the position.

Yes, but I think LeBeau was pushed out because Tomlin wants more say in our D. And yea, our CB's couldn't cover as needed in the Tampa 2 type D.

Maxwell would be a great pickup... I doubt they will have the money for him though, and they wont know until after they resolve Ben's contract. That is priority numero uno this offseason. Ben is going to demand around $22mil/yr ($125+mil contract) because he deserves every penny of it.

Lot of teams deploy the Tampa 2...what makes it bullshit in your mind? Just curious...to your point on the DBs...they need to improve regardless of the scheme.
