Pretty surprised it doesn't seem to be getting that much press, considering how well both the Hawks and the Caps are playing. Obviously Nats Park isn't anywhere historic as Michigan's football stadium or Fenway, but the matchup is good and I don't think the novelty is wearing off quite yet.

I was lucky enough to get a ticket a long with my gf's family for Christmas. Any one else going?

NBCSN is doing a recap of the Winter Classic history and I'm getting some chills remembering the 1st game. I was in Buffalo during the game, (not at the game), and yes....pretty electric; the best city to host such a game.

I don't think there will be another outdoor game that compares. From the crowd to the weather to how it ended.......the 2008 game was perfect.

The games have historically been pretty hard to watch. And it's just overplayed now. I sincerely don't care about it. *shrugs*

I only hope they have an over the hill rock band play halftime!

Heard a rumo(u)r that the front runner for the next one is Boston - Gillette stadium. Wow. Way out of left field with that choice. I bet they will also go completely off the reservation and make it Bruins - Pens. That will be SHOCKING.

Having a second team HOST again is just insane. There's been some repeats, but at least there hasn't been a repeat HOST. There are some obvious places that deserve a game (Minnesota, hello).

Personally I think the league fucked this up. With Mike Modano going into the HOF they should have had a Dallas at Minnesota game.

Yeah, Minny no doubt. Denver too. Not to mention all those football stadiums up north that go unused in Winter... Of course, I would love to see one at the Horseshoe here in C-bus.

I don't see why there has to be a "host city" per se. How great would it be to see one in Notre Dame's stadium? Or Lambeau? Seattle? Oregon Ducks stadium? I would have loved it if the Pitt one was in Beaver stadium instead of Heinz. I might have made an effort to go.

Or really go nuts; Sweden.

the one that killed it for me last year was the Vancouver one. Ive never seen one so cheap and money grabbing that didnt celebrate what the game is or the teams playing. no history between the two, Vancouver and Calgary would have been better for a match up on that. I just didnt like a thing about it. the cost, the outcome, the look and feel was all fake. it might have been a financial success but to me it really buried the feel of it all. I know it was the heritage classic over the winter classic but it still hurt it all for me.

Yeah and it ended up being played under a roof too which defeats the purpose of an outdoor game

There was certainly a lack of emotion for that game (not to mention a lack of Luongo)

:D

I'm pretty sure it was JoePa who said no to that. Or simply PSU. I seem to recall it being kicked around before they announced Heinz.
