Dunno if the White Sox do it, but I'd trade Belt straight up for Addison Reed. Best closing prospect in baseball, and is Kimbrel nasty. Yeah, we have Hembree, but he still needs time. This kid, on the other hand, is ML ready and raring to go. And for some God forsaken reason, the CWS are intent on using Thornton to close; Even though he butchered the 9th for them all last year.

Like I said, doubt it gets done, but if it was an option, I pull that trigger.

That said, maybe they'd trade for Belt, but they obviously have 1B covered. I guess he could play LF for them but they have Viciedo there.

I may have to add them to my possible surprise teams, if their pitching keeps up. They potentially have one of the best 1-5 rotations in the AL

Per Baseball-Reference, he makes $8.5 mm this year and is "arb-4" in 2013, but I'm not certain what that means.

It means he's in a similar situation to the one that Lincecum was in after last season : his contract is going to expire, but he still has at least one arbitration year remaining (Lincecum had two remaining, Wilson only has one). So expect Wilson to be released by the Giants during the off-season (with a good possibility that they re-sign him the next day).

Now normally I wouldn't advocate trading a power hitting prospect for a closing prospect, but Belts value is meh right now, and Reed has video game minors numbers. Look at his WHIP and K/BB ratios, those are freaking insane!
And its not like he's being shipped off for a rental, but a cost controlled top 100 prospect.

I think they wait a while and see how things shake out. They're pretty high on Belt I don't think they just toss him away for a one year rental. Especially if they think of him as our replacement for Huff starting in 2014.

I wouldn't trade Belt and hanrahan's sudden 5-8 mph jump in velocity In recent years is a little suspect to me.

Just tossing ideas around, I'd rather not go with a rookie at closer or spread the current pen too thin.

Wilson ain't gonna make as much money now, he'll be in his 30s when he gets back from this injury, has had injury history and doesn't have an official contract for next year. Giants may be able to retain Wilson for FAR significantly cheaper in the long run when it looked like he was going to be gone after 2013.

So, while we may miss him this year, he may be around for far longer at a cheaper contract. And he may even be improved, many pitchers have come back from Tommy John and have increased velocity and movement on pitches.

Because the talent gap between the two is quite large.

There are plenty of guys who come back throwing as good if not better than before. There are many who come back and have to adjust to decreased stuff. There are some who never return.

If I had to guess, I'd say Wilson comes back regressed. But if his demeanor says other wise, he's going to throw as hard as ever.

Evidently he came back from his last tommy John even better/as good as before so that is at least encouraging. I am expecting the same results the dude is well-grounded despite his fanciful nature.

But he was 21 during that operation. He'll be 30 this time around. And I don't really know the history of guys having it done a second time.

It's not really as stressful a surgery as it used to be. I'll never say an invasive operation is routine, but TJ is about as routine as it can possibly get.

It's arthroscopic, they harvest the ligament form your body so there is no rejection, and it's really 80% rehab 20% actual surgery. They have this crap down to a science these days.

Very true. That's where his age comes into play (80% rehab), but with the shape he is in, shouldn't be much of a problem. Just speculating possible issues here.

IMO yes. And I think Boch already proved it last year when Wilson was out. Casilla had 6 of 7 saves down the stretch.

I am not a dr, so if you are, I will bow to you, but DrB IS a doc and he said in his write-up of this thing yesterday that the success rate for guys having a second TJ is not very promising.

Of course, anything can happen, but it ain't looking good for the bearded one right now.
