Apparently it's his elbow. No other info than it would be closer by committee.

Edit: Now Twitter lit up, according to the tweet world it's structural damage, surgery likely

BREAKING NEWS: Wilson has ‘structural issues,’ surgery will likely put him out for the year | Giants Extra

The first shocker of the year: Brian Wilson has an elbow problem and it’s not good. An MRI revealed that Wilson has `structural issues’ — that’s the way they’re terming it for now, holding out hope against hope — and both manager Bruce Bochy and trainer Dave Groeschner said season-ending surgery is likely.

Bochy, still shell-shocked by the news, said it’ll be closer by committee for now. Feels worse for the pitcher than the team at the moment, which is understandable. Wilson was not immediately available. He has had Tommy John surgery before, so this is not a new process for him. The doctors will get second opinions on the MRI, including from noted elbow surgeon Dr. James Andrews, but the long faces said everything.

Ouch

Shades of Robb Nen, only younger.

The good: now it's not a hard decision on keeping him

The bad: now we can't trade him for anything of worth

The ugly: my favorite player on the team, I am pretty fucking sad about this.

At least we have a ton of possible options, and he doesn't blow a bunch of games before we figure out if he's hurt.

Still, :smash: :burt:

At the risk of (again) sounding mercenary, at least this is the last year of his contract, no?

Per Baseball-Reference, he makes $8.5 mm this year and is "arb-4" in 2013, but I'm not certain what that means.

Greg Papa on CSN just asked a sideline guy if we'd trade Belt for a closer. He pointed out there's no closers available really, lots of hurt ones. Wilson now, Bailey (Red Sox), Soria (KC), Madsen (Reds), etc.

As GPC points out, Casilla (and Romo) can handle it IMO.

Good Point.

I plan on attending a bunch of games and i would hate to leave the yard watching blown save after blown save.

ahem....

I already repped you, whore, and now I'm repped out for 24 hours. And, yes, Wilson shit the bed. That wasn't Wilson blowing 97 to corners and walking a few, it was more like watching a guy who knows his career may be over and not wanting to leave the last dance in the middle of the song.

And don't forget Hembree. We have to call up another player to fill the slot. Likely it will be a pitcher, and there's a good chance it will be Hembree.

Unlikely. Vogey needs to be activated, and Otero stays up

Bochy already said it will be Vogelsong.

This really weakens our BP. We have some capable guys in Romo, Casilla and Lopez but Wilson was the anchor and he's been there done that. Now we have to rely on some guys who have been great but haven't really had to be The Man before.

And I hope Boch doesn't really go closer-by-committee, that's a recipe for some worn out arms and more injuries. I think they'll lean towards Casilla as the closer keep Romo/Lopez/Affeldt for the 7th-8th, maybe hold Lopez in the back pocket based on matchups, but man what a shame.

I hope this doesn't turn into a house of cards - as far as leading to over-use of our top guys and them wearing down by the end of the season. I don't want to see any more of Otero or Hensley than I have to.

Dunno if the White Sox do it, but I'd trade Belt straight up for Addison Reed. Best closing prospect in baseball, and is Kimbrel nasty. Yeah, we have Hembree, but he still needs time. This kid, on the other hand, is ML ready and raring to go. And for some God forsaken reason, the CWS are intent on using Thornton to close; Even though he butchered the 9th for them all last year.

Like I said, doubt it gets done, but if it was an option, I pull that trigger.
