That sounds like the right plan but we saw it all this year...doubt Fields would last a full season on the bench. One injury or bad start away from starting early rather than late but that being said, that would be the smart move. Lawrence is a start from day one QB like Burrow.

we may hire the chargers team doctor.

Sewell projects to be a stud OT. I'm of the mind if you're keeping Darnold, why not draft some better protection for him?
I dont know the player, but is he slated to go #3?
I assume whoever trades up to #2 will take fields. If the jets fall back a few spots, is it possible to still get the OT? The Jets has many holes. if they can fall back a few spots & ransom the #2 spot to a team that needs/wants Fields. Sets up the team for the long term.

there is clear logic in that. But it is not as easy as it sounds. You don’t pass on a qb if you like him more than your qb.

The mocks I see have him between #2 and 4. He's maybe the BPA after Lawrence.

on edit; Meant TL at the end.

he is still o-line. Might be great. But the demand through trade should be worth it if they don’t want fields. I can easily see Carolina trading up to the 2. And the jets would still get the 4. Sure Sewell will be gone but they will still get a damn good pick.

Maybe, though it's not clear he will evaluate that well, e.g.

Justin Fields has a similar skill set in many ways to a smaller Cam Newton, and while he's flashed at times in 2020 he's also struggled in two of his last three games. Fields is still a first-round talent and currently on track to be the No. 2 QB off the board.
So he's having some less-than-stellar outings on a college team that is head-and-shoulders above everyone else in their conference. It'll depend on the Jets film guys as to whether there's more upside than with Darnold.

Bold: I agree with this part, because it's the kind of mistake that Marty Hurney would make. The Panthers should take Kyle Pitts from UF if he's available. The guy is a matchup nightmare and a perfect weapon for what Joe Brady is trying to do with the O. Bridgewater is serviceable in the system they're running.

nothing that would make me happier than if the jets went to Cincinnati and said we now don’t know whether we want fields. We may take Sewell. Give us 2 2nd round picks and we will swap places with you. And then take fields at 3.

yea I agree that Carolina doesn’t need to pay for a qb. They are a mccaffry team.

That only works in fairytale land but if it were the opposite, they need a QB can I could see it happening

He should’ve been canned weeks ago.
That entire organization is devoid of discipline and direction all throughout, from the ownership at the very top all the way on down to the peripheral fringe personnel.
Wouldn’t be shocked in the least if Trevor Lawrence spurned them if they still have a chance to use their draft pick on him.

1st off. As a Jaguars fan...

Thank you.

2nd. As a Seahawks fan. Use that first wisely.

But to topic at hand.

The Jets are the most inept and incompetent franchise since mid 2000s. They are a graveyard for players, which sucks because they have such a good fanbase

there are none. It’s just people seriously underestimating the stupidity of the jets. And everyone already admits that they are the dumbest team.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but Gase got the GM hired, which has led to some speculation here that Gase could be retained.
