Because the team is too talented to lose. But what will the rest of the league be able to do? I imagine most teams will want to beat them every chance they get. Every team really. if Houston does handle this controversy, it could put the final nail in MLB's coffin.

The whole world knows this team is full of cheaters. I honestly don't think baseball fans are gonna want this team to be winning and if Houston goes to the WS, it could be the lowest-rated one in quite a while.

LOL... your thread asks whether Houston will be a villain... but your posts say otherwise... If houston is going to be the villain, people will watch, just to wish they lose... Fans love to hate just as much as they love their teams....

so yes, i think the astros will be a villain this season... No, i dont think them being a villain will hurt baseball...

But yes, i do think the cheating scandal, hurt baseball a lot...

Bet the house on the dodgers winning this year. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Astros took a major step backwards this year.

Only to the flailers, the weak minded and the hypocrites who are too big of pussies to admit their team is cheating too.

Since when has having a villain been bad for sports? I don't know how the attendance will be in Houston but I'm guessing attendance and tv ratings for all of their away games will be above average, especially if the Astros are good.

If they continue to win, the public will think they're cheating.

If they lose, the public will think "good for them the fucking cheaters"

A no win situation for them I'm afraid.

That's true for the general public but I think if they can win without any kind of controversy this season it will give their fans a reason to feel better about supporting them. They can say "see we were good enough to win anyway", or "this time we did it the right way" or some kind of narrative. For that reason I think they will be extra motivated to win.

It doesn't matter if the Astros win this season, 2017 will be the talking point for the rest of fans lives.

Nah, the Astros are well respected by everyone around baseball including fans of all teams. No one is mad at them.

Agreed. But if they continue to win, which I presume they will, how is anyone assured that they are not cheating in some way?

Well from what I've seen there are a lot of bitter Dodgers fans and fans of other teams that will assume they are still cheating in some way. But I'm talking about any Astros fans who decided to take some moral high ground stance and stopped watching the Astros because it sets a bad example for their kids or whatever. To win those people back they don't even have to stop cheating, they just have to stop getting caught cheating.
