While Jets coach Rex Ryan has dialed back on his boasts over the years, his players have yet to get the memo. On Monday, New York defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson guaranteed the Jets would beat the Patriots when the two teams meet Thursday at Gillette Stadium.
“We’re going to go to Foxboro and get this win,” he told New York’s WFAN Radio. “We’re going to be 2-0.”
The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder out of Temple made the claim the day after the Jets took a dramatic 18-17 home win over the Bucs, a game that was decided on a last-second field goal after a late Tampa Bay penalty put the Jets in position to win the game late.
For what it’s worth, Wilkerson has been a part of the Jets since 2011, and has never been part of a New York win over the Patriots.
