I’ll be just west of council. This our 3rd year in there so we are really starting to put it together. We are pretty good at finding spikes and cows, just need to get lucky with the rut.Heading down in November I believe... Bucko's should be plenty fat by then if they survive the bowhunters.
Really want to get back into elk. Haven't done it in years, probably back when I was in high school. Never got to put one down, but I always muled out the meat for someone else. Quite the workout but I was always rewarded for my efforts from my friends.
Good luck with your hunt in Weiser. Are you going to be on the Snake side of Weiser or the CC Res side?
Nice. Don't know if I've ever been up in that specific area, but I have been through Council many times. Hopefully the timing works out for you!I’ll be just west of council. Early Nov should have the bucks starting to migrate down out of the mountains, as long as there’s weather. If you can find a travel corridor or natural funnel and sit, I bet you’ll see plenty. Can’t wait to see some pics.
A high mountain mulie trio is high on my to do list, hopefully in the next 5 years.
Where are you hunting? In about a half hour, I'm gonna finish my coffee and start to dress for the pheasant opener this morning. The moment I pull on a pair of blue jeans without taking a shower like I do for work, Whip is gonna start going BULLSHIT.
Hope wifey can get back to sleep after we leave but it's gonna be screaming and barking till I get the trunk loaded and us on the road!
Where are you hunting?
Gotcha. Just curious as somebody from South Dakota. We hunted our gun club in CT this am but I also hunt in MA. Stocked birds of course.

I don't have my own hunting dogs but always have some people to go with that do. It's especially impressive to watch Brittany's working through thick stuff, but mostly labs are used.Do you run dogs out there?
It's always been a dream of mine to bring Whip out to the Midwest to chase wild birds. I simply cannot get time off in the fall. I'm a public school teacher and we get a ton of time off but we cannot miss a full week during the school year for recreational purposes.
These tailgate pics all start to look the same. The only chance I had to make a phone video was on the final point where my buddy had no shot at all. I had to take the last shot so no chance.
OnX is 100% worth the price. You can dig around a bit and get a discount code for it, 20 percent I think.@DHoey and anyone else that may have some helpful hints.
Anybody have any good resources for seeing public vs private land boundaries using GPS or online maps?
I'm trying to use the PublicLands.org maps and its miserable.
I got a recommendation to use OnX hunting GPS software. But I'm going to hold off on buying the subscription until I need to.
Thanks for the tips! Heading down to the Owyhees this Friday and took all of next week off from work. The restless nights are in full swing.OnX is 100% worth the price. You can dig around a bit and get a discount code for it, 20 percent I think.
You can search on Rokslide for the unit that you’ll be in. Lots of good info there.
Good luck my man! Try and remember to take some pictures! Thanks for the tips! Heading down to the Owyhees this Friday and took all of next week off from work. The restless nights are in full swing.
Somewhere, Oscar is lurking.Up here in Washington we got deer, grouse, rabbit and doves opening tomorrow. When does everybody else get started? When is the first day that you're heading out?
I'll be sitting in my stand Friday after work for deer and then taking the dog out Sat to chase some grouse, then back in the stand on Sunday.
