As you read this, one truth is beyond dispute at Washington football headquarters. That truth?......Absolutely no one is happy with the current state of the team. Unfortunately, that's the good news, for now.

OK, we are officially Tampa Bay north, but we've hired a guy who is well respected as a builder of contending teams who's job it will be to reconstitute a roster with more highly skilled NFL caliber players. His latest assessment tells us that this team is much better right now than the one that he began with in San Francisco. Many DC fans took this as very good news, and it is.....however it is something bigger than Just a team assessment. From the moment he said this, I knew just as he must have, that the clock was tickng on the Head coach and the fellow former Buccaneers reunion here in DC. Continued failure by this group and the only question will be how many of them will go. I'll give it two seasons, before McLoughlin introduces Davd Shaw as the new HC of this team and the war officially over.

Might not take that long if we improve the offensive line and the offense still looks like garbage why waste a 3rd year on Jay Gruden

I agree to a point what you said. McCloughan, in his press conference, said if Jay wants him as a "sounding board" for making coaching decision, he's there for him, but it is Jay's call. McCloughan gave Gruden enough rope to hang himself. Pending this season, if there are still failures with the Qb position and the defense still continues to have lapses in play. Gruden and the Tampa Bay mafia are done. If you read what Gruden said in why he picked Barry. It's sickening to hear that from a HC and makes me doubt the desire to be the head coach here. Whats done is done. On to the next hire. Wonder how the Qb coach hiring will go.

I have never understood what happens to relatively competent coaches and players when they sign here. Maybe there's some truth in bad karma, or maybe there's a systematic reality that this is where you come to get paid and not win because your best efforts are not required.

This team and the Raiders are alike. Basement teams the will pay top dollar for old talent and final year of contracts warriors. When will we get away from this. Hopefully McCloughan can change the flow of how this team is handled. You might be absolutely correct Sty. It might take 2 years to find out, truly where this team is headed now. But I believe if McCloughan is allowed to do his job correctly without interference and with the "right" coaching staf.f I can wait for this team to be built into a perennial contender like Seattle and New England, instead of having up and down seasons.

Downer? With another kickass low strength of schedule and your outlook on next season, we can get that franchise qb in 2016!

well... i guess thats another positive lol. im just saying i have very low expectations for next season. if we keep scot around for awhile we could find ourselves in the playoffs in 3-5 years. its a slow process.

What did Gruden say was the reason for picking Barry?

I agree he is on the clock and with this team and from what we've seen from this coaching staff I would not expect a miraculous turnaround and that is what is needed to save jobs. But I continue to wonder if GMSM will have full control or will Snyder and more so Allen again interfere.

Here's a link, if you wanna read the entire post: Jay Gruden explains why he feels Joe Barry is the ‘best fit’ for Redskins - The Washington Post

I'll pick out somethings I read: He’s walking into a situation here where we’re going to have some adversity and I know he can handle it. He’s a tough guy, committed guy, a loyal guy, and I think he’s good fit for us. “We only offered, really, to Joe. Vic was kind of more of a meeting and see what kind of availability he had. Asked what impressed him most about Barry’s interview, Gruden said it was too hard to pinpoint one thing

Sty, I don't think these competent coaches change, rather they are just thrown into a completely dysfunctional system that is set up for failure. This is how dan operates. Snitching, backstabbing, micromanagement, meddling. All components that guarantee failure and lack of unity. So if the front office has no unity, it's not unreasonable to expect that that culture will extend into the players, and ultimately onto the field. We have had every type of HC in the last 15 years. If we should have learned anything, it is that the problems with this franchise are not due to the coaching staff and that no HC can re-right the ship. Moreover, it is unreasonable to expect a GM to be able to do this, either. The best we can hope for is that scot is given some latitude his first year in a "prove it" scenario and he hits big in the draft. If so, he might be given more latitude in the second year. But if this draft doesn't result in some immediate success, it is my fear that dan will once again exert pressure for big forays into FA to get they immediate gratification that he so needs. Meaning that our HC and GM fail again.
