I think Gillis was on the right track when he tried to poach David Backes (that was before his 31 goal season).

For the Sabres, we have very solid D and two good Tenders. We have a solid offense on the wings with Vanek, Stafford, Ennis, Pominville, Boyes, Gerbe, Kaleta, and McCormick. But we still lack a number 1 center. We have Roy and Leino who will both be very a very good 2nd and 3rd line center combo, and Gaustad as our anchor on the fourth line and in pivotal faceoff moments. But we lack a solid real 1st line center. It is because of this that I would choose real first line center. In a perfect world I would choose either Crosby or Toews. But in a real world, I think we could trade for Stastny.
