Looks like Davey Johnson will still be managing next year since he got a contract through 2012. I think they are going to be evaluating and searching for the right manager for the 2013 season to make a playoff run.
He's done a good job so far. I don't think the results of this season can be held against him, if the team starts to fall. I will be happy if they end the season around .500. They have been playing above their level lately, especially pitching wise, and you can't win every 1-run game.
This off-season is going to be crucial. There are a few holes in this team that need to be filled. If they can replace Desmond (I think they should move Espinosa to SS and place their 1st pick this year, Rendon, at 2B), find 1 more OF, and a couple starting pitchers, then this is a playoff caliber team. Might be a lot to ask for with a limited budget, but by 2013 this team will compete for the division.
