I would give it to the Arizona Cardinals honestly...I like their head coach and the young talent they have brought in. They play in a tough division obviously but another good draft or two and they could definitely be in the running. Big thing will be quarterback for them as I don't think Palmer can take them to the promised land.

Have to agree on Arizona, they are definitely on the rise and were the only team to thump Seattle in Seattle.
From those that have never even been there, Houston or Detroit could both make the playoffs this season.

Detroit to me it all depends on whether the new HC can actually get the players to live up to their potential. I really don't think he is that great of a Head Coach so my thought is no. Houston if they come away with a franchise quarterback have the pieces in place to make a run for sure.

In selecting only 1 team, my guess would be Carolina.

Clearly I'm biased, but Arizona has a lot going for them.

Great new coach, youth and talent on defense, great GM.

What they don't have going for them is the division they play in.

Fair. CP is a huge step up from the previous bunch of nobodys, but still a far cry from what you'd consider a superbowl type qb.

And the QB

Palmer is good enough to win a SB with. He put up good numbers minus the int(s) in the first half of the season. And that is despite playing behind a mediocre O-line & not having the wheels to compensate that while playing in the NFLBest. If you can win a SB with Eli & Flacco, you can surely win a SB with Palmer.

If they get one before my team I'll be seriously depressed.

Would be cool for them though.

Philly, Cleveland, and Detroit all have NFL recognized championship titles.

They were not called superbowls, but its silly to ignore nearly 50 years of football accomplishments.

It would be like people not counting any of the Russell Celtics NBA titles had the ABA-NBA merger decided to rename the championship.

Good post ,but I would feel better making a comment after the FA and draft are done. A bump in this thread will be needed later IMO.

The Super Bowl went a step beyond the NFL Championship. You had to win the NFL Championship just to make it to the Super Bowl. When it first started it wasn't called the Super Bowl. It was called the NFL-AFL Championship. The term "Super Bowl" wasn't official until the 3rd game (so Packer haters can rightfully say they didn't win the first two Super Bowls, on a technicality).

So yeah, other teams won NFL Championships prior to the first NFL-AFL Championship, but with that merger the bar was raised. What was once the NFL Championship became a conference championship, as two leagues merged.

The Browns became the Ravens and won a SB but somehow when the Browns came back all of that history went to the expansion team of the same name....strange. I guess the Browns have never won one because of that.

Right now the Panthers and the Cardinals look like the best teams on that list. We'll need to see what happens during the offseason though.
