Who does Mike Babcock have to blow to get a Jack Adams?

Seriously, I feel like people aren't giving him enough credit. Look at what he's done this year. I hope Bylsma is a finalist, sure, but Babcock deserves it.

When a team is always at the top of their division and makes the PO's for 40 straight years, it kinda makes it hard to give it to him over other coaches who have less talent to work with, or overcome bigger odds to get to the PO's.

He's a system coach.

Right now I would give it to Guy Boucher.

The Lightning went from missing the PO's last year in 12th place to being in 5th place right now. Given the team's history and recent struggles, this is quite the turnaround this season. They haven't always won by a lot or made it look pretty, but a win is a win at the end of the day.

Why does Trotz always get praised for this while Ruff doesn't? If you look at these two teams closely, they are practically the same team. Both teams don't really have "star" players, but they win games mostly due to strong goaltending.

The Sabres however have a slightly better offense than the Preds, but the Preds have a slightly better defense than the Sabres.

yea you are right. i guess trotz is the first to come to mind for me because as a wings fan, i watch the preds more than the sabres considering that they play the preds 6 times a year and the sabres only once or twice

I'm guessing it's because Ruff has already been recognized with a Jack Adams, Trotz has yet to win one. He is my pick this year, and probably will be until he wins one.

So much of this goes into what the team did the previous year or years, but I think a lot of THAT has to do with the GMs. In Tampas case it seemed to be more the work of Yzerman at getting the right talent in place, which then helped spark the talent already there in Vinny, Marty, and Stamkos. I agree that guys like Trotz and Ruff should be considered as well because of the talent in comparison to other big teams, but I honestly think that a lot of those players are just under-rated. The coach of the year is one of the hardest to pick, especially for an outsider, merely because it's impossible to tell if it's the work of the team or more the coach.
