La Pantera is on fire. He'll be needed for the playoffs.

Extremely early update from ESPN on Cease:

The White Sox said Cease has a right triceps contusion and that X-rays were negative.

Cease breezed into the sixth but was hit on his pitching arm by a one-hopper from Bradley Zimmer that rolled behind the mound with one out. Cease grabbed his arm and knelt behind the mound.

Chicago manager Tony La Russa, pitching coach Ethan Katz, a team trainer and the White Sox infielders surrounded Cease, who got to his feet and walked on the infield grass.

Cease threw a couple of pitches from the mound to catcher Zack Collins but walked to the dugout after a discussion with La Russa.

So the initial take on this is it's nothing to fret over, but I'm guessing Cease is gonna have a sore arm for a few days. It may be enough to hold him back one start. Then again, he probably only has one start remaining in the regular season, so a more likely scenario is having him rest until last couple of games, then send him out for a 5 inning max appearance.

Yes - good news. Cease has pitched 161 innings this year - which gives him the iron man award for this pitching staff - also the number 3 guy in the league for swing and miss pitches. He is also very good news for the future.

Glad to see the Sox win the rubber match of that 5 game series. Especially considering we clinched the Central after game 1. We could have sat back and played more scrubs. Yet it seems none of the starting crew appear to be overworked.

6 games left, the first is a wasted rainout makeup at Detroit, then the final 5 at the friendly confines. We'll be well rested in prep for the Houston road trip come playoff time.
