There are a lot of Pens fans in here who may prefer the Steelers. The NFL board is dead, so just because people talk about hockey, that does not mean that it is their favorite sport to watch. It is a barometer of sorts. All three sports are getting ready to be going together...

There is more balance with the NFL and NHL. With the cap structure that makes the leagues more competitive.

In CB and the MLB the playing field is tilted because of no hard cap and some schools get preferential treatment. ND getting money from NBC and in MLB ESPN demanding they get to televise a certain number of games between the RedSox and the Yanks.

It no fun when before the season starts you can predict what teams will be playing for the number one spot. In the NFL and NHL it's very hard to do.

If I had to choose only one sport to watch it would be hockey for three reasons.

1.They play more games in the NHL than the NFL.
2.The season is longer.
3.They players actually hit each other without a penalty being called every single time.

Rugby could very well be second. But hockey is first.

But in rugby you can bring a keg onto the field after the game and drink with they guys you just finished mutually pummeling. :)

...hockey is fun to watch live, but (i am going to get murdered for this)....it is not great on TV...and there are too many regular season games so only a few regular season games have as much energy as I would prefer.....

You can do that in hockey too, just not on a professional level. I highly doubt the pro teams in rugby are pounding kegs on the field right after the game.

I agree hockey is harder to follow on TV. Part of it is that football fans get to have three commercials to take the time and dissect what just happened. In hockey you must pay attention because the play is almost non stop.
