Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Orioles have mentioned prospects Keibert Ruiz and Dustin May in trade talks with the Dodgers as part of a possible Manny Machado deal.

Morosi notes that the Dodgers are unlikely to include Ruiz in a deal for a rental player like Machado, but it shows that the Orioles are aiming high in trade talks. Ruiz has had a bit of a quiet year in Double-A (.243/.307/.364 in 63 games), but keep in mind that he doesn't turn 20 until July. He's one the best catching prospects in the game. Bob Nightengale of USA Today previously mentioned the Orioles' interest in May. The 20-year-old has a 3.13 ERA and 71/13 K/BB ratio over 72 innings in High-A this season.

Orioles f*cked this up completely.

Should have traded him over the winter. They clearly think they're entitled to a similar package for 3 months, the rest of the league is clearly telling them they're wrong.

Braves, Brewers, Indians and Diamondbacks just need to back away now.

With the Orioles asking price, the only way trading for Machado would be worth it is if you can sign him. Cubs, Dodgers and Phillies have a shot to sign him, the rest of the suitors have no shot. If you trade for him and then he walks, you'd have to win the World Series for it to be worth it.

Miller and Allen are both free agents after this year. Indians might be looking at it like this season is their best shot for a few years.

It's why I hope the Braves don't get him. We'd have to give up real prospects to get him and there's a 0% chance he signs next season, and he's a shortstop now and we'd make him play third and knowing him, he'd pout and be a distraction about it.

Yeah, the Indians have a better shortstop, so Machado would definitely be moving to third if he lands in Cleveland.

Exactly. They're going to have to come down, or keep him.

They probably should have traded him last season.

I'm an Astros fan but the Brewers have a history of bad moves.

I'm pretty sure you were a Rangers fan just last year. What happened there?

They also might have a better 3rd baseman, though they could move Ramirez to 2nd.

Where they were first round playoff exits and Sabathia signed with the Yankees, and then the Brewers had back to back losing seasons afterwards and watched Michael Brantley become a really good player with the Indians? Yeah, I remember.

Was it worth it?

yep

According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, Orioles shortstop Manny Machado remains the "top target" for the Phillies.

Heyman notes that the Phillies had a scout present to watch the Orioles on Monday. Machado would be a great fit for contending Philadelphia and they probably have the pieces to get a satisfactory deal done, but there's going to be plenty of competition. One recent report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic indicated that the Dodgers and Brewers were the "most serious" suitors for Machado, but the Yankees and Diamondbacks are among the other teams in the mix. As such, Heyman writes that the Phillies are discussing other infielders as backup plans. Whit Merrifield of the Royals is one such option who has been connected to the Phillies in recent days.

He's gonna go to free agency and he's gonna get a huge payday.

It's why I hope the Braves don't get him. We'd have to give up real prospects to get him and there's a 0% chance he signs next season, and he's a shortstop now and we'd make him play third and knowing him, he'd pout and be a distraction about it.

If we're gonna trade for a rental from the Orioles, I want Zach Britton.

Your farm system is absolutely loaded though. Manny's talent alone would really fire up your entire fanbase.

Offensively, Machado is gonna be better than most shortstops, ours included, but Dansby rates as a far better defender, and as much as people laugh at using the word "clutch" these days, there's not a player on the team I'd rather have at the plate with the game on the line, and that includes Freddie Freeman.

It would, but it's that I'm opposed to dealing any prospects, it's just if we're gonna deal them, I'd rather get a guy like JT Realmuto, Brad Hand or a decent, controllable starter.

Lindor is better offensively, and WAY better defensively than Machado. Same with Ramirez.

Both bitches 2017-18: 125 OPS+

Edge goes to Lindor because he doesn’t get an achy pussy when he’s tagged hard.

@Chewbaccer, can I get an amen?

Machado has been pretty adamant about saying he'll only play SS?
