Ok so now Roy Helu is 6th on the all time rushing list at Nebraska and still climbing. That doesn't mean that very many people consider him one of the best RBs in Nebraska history. Why is that?

1. Is it because of who recruited him?
2. Is it because he played in an era that most would like to forget?
3. Is it because of the offense we now run that doesn't feature the RB like in the past?
4. Is it because he isn't a typical "power" back like Nebraska is used to in the past?
5. Is it because he played all 4 years when most of the players around him in the rushing rankings only played 3?
6. Is it because he isn't a very vocal off the field guy?
7. Is it because he doesn't have any championship rings (conference or national titles) like the other big names do?
8. Is it because he hasn't been up for any big time awards?
9. Or is it a combination of some of the above?

I think #2, #7, #8 combine to make the answer...........so #9 is ultimately the answer :D

Helu is the best tailback we've had since Ahman Green. He also one of the best to ever play at Nebraska.

In my book Helu's the best single game running back in the history of Nebraska football.

Can you imagine how many yards Roy would've had during the Osborne years?

I think a lot of it has to do with his personalty. He also has not has too many memorable runs before this year. Though it looks like he could get into the top 5 or better career yards, he will be remembered.

Why isn't Helu considered 'great' when compaired to other Nebraska runningbacks?

-All of our other running backs were the dominate or the main runningback on our team (Helu his whole career has shared time with Lucky/Burkhead/Tray/etc etc). Our past running backs that were considered great could carry the ball 30 times a game and showed up in the big games. Helu has on occasion showed up for the big games(Virgina Tech and Oklahoma in 08), but we didn't win any of them until yesterday. Not only did we not win those big games, but sometimes he was shut down completely in big games too. (where was he against Texas last year? Where was he against Texas this year?) When its all said and done, Im going to think of helu as an average running back, nothing too special. Last week was the first time he actually picked up our offense and carried it on his shoulders in a big game.

I kind of agree with you here. Helu is a very good back, not a great one. The blocking against Missouri, especially on the runs Helu ran for TDs was awesome. He was pretty much untouched on those TD runs.

His three TD runs weren't what impressed me so much, as has been said he wasn't really touched. The o-line and rcvrs gave him a huge running lane each time.

I give him credit for seeing, hitting the running lane, and having the speed to outrun the Missouri secondary who had angles on him.

I give him most credit for holding onto the ball and being the workhorse for 13:50 total in the fourth Q..

If the Huskers Pull out a win in Dallas that would really help to get people to think of him that way.
