Where does Will stand

So let me drill this further...Will, Major and Skyler where the only players on their teams? No one else was responsible for any of the wins and losses? Its been a long time since I played but the last time I checked it was a team game...if one player falls down another should pick up the slack...its a constant...that has never changed...ITS A TEAM GAME!

QB is the most pivotal position that determines whether a team wins or loses. Great QBs lead their teams to great seasons. Marc Bulger was the greatest pure passer WVU has ever had, but his team did not have great successes. Tom Brady is the Best NFL QB because he won Super Bowls. Dan Marino was a better QB, but could not win a Championship. As you can see I am biased to winning. Skyler takes a team expected to be bad and gets 10 wins. Will takes a team expected to finish second and finishes fourth and then bails for the bowl game.

With that in mind here are my rankings.

Pat White. 4 years of excitement, 4 bowl wins. Best strech of high rankings in WVU history. Beat Oklahoma. Most rushing yards by a QB.

Geno Smith. 4 winning seasons. Serious Heisman contender. Beat Clemson 70-33. Amazingly played well for Toe Mater and Cough Count. Holds most passing records at WVU.

Major Harris . 1 st undefeated regular season and a busted shoulder from an NC. Exciting to watch. If he stayed one more year would be at the top of this list.

Marc Bulger best QB on this list. Never had a great supporting cast around him. If I were building a team he would be my QB.

Hoss. First great WVU free agent QB. High caliber QB who broke the 28 year losing streak to PSU. Beat Oklahoma

Kelchner/Studstill they make my list as a tandem who took us to our 2 nd undefeated regular season.

Ollie. Nehlen s first QB and a big reason he had initial success and became a legendary coach at WVU.

Will Grier. Best 18 game career ever at WVU. Had he came here as a Freshman would have broken all of Geno s records.

Skyler Howard led WVU to its best season at WVU in the B12, but was painful to watch.

Clint Trickett one concussion away from making the list
Dan Kendra did not get to see much of him.

Well your all over the place here...if we are bringing up the Pro's...I would tell you the Steelers won it with defense their first 2 super bowls...McMahon did nothing to help the Bears in '85...Russel Wilson was average in their Super Bowl Win...I would suggest to you that it took all 3 phases for the 49'ers to win their Super Bowls..point to Montana if you want but if you really go back and watch their games it was Roger Craig, The most underrated Defense in NFL history and #80

You think Alabama has won their NC's on their QB play?? Really?...

Glad you brought up the Fiesta Bowl...I am more than positive the Defense won the game that day...To put Kelcner and Studstill ahead of Grier is just unfathomable...

Pats offense scored 48 in the Fiesta bowl.

I recognize Kelchner/Studstill for the accomplishment of the undefeated season. Great Defense but these QBs scored when necessary and pulled off some big wins. Neither of these guys are as good as Will, but what they accomplished as a tandem is bigger than what Will produced. Just my opinion. If I were to choose my starter for nex year and all these guys are on my roster, here is how I go

Last year for sure. The other teams were so dominant all around that they did not need superior QB production. They lost one due to Desean Watson. How many Heisman QBs lead their teams to the playoff or NC game.

He was impressive for the Gators before testing positive for steroids. That led to him transferring to West Virginia. There is a long way to go before this becomes concrete...Senior Bowl...Combine...etc..

Very true, but Will has really been trending down. In December Mock drafts had him going in the top 20, now I cannot find any mock draft where he is even mentioned in the first round.

I hope he can play lights out at the Senior Bowl and move back in the right direction

IMHO he throws the best deep ball of anyone coming out...and that scores huge with the pros...add to that his above average ability to read defenses...accuracy...he will move up ...

His high side is indeed huge, but I still think he made a mistake by not playing in the bowl. He may be lights out in the senior bowl and end up in the first round, BUT as of right now the pro scouts last view of him was the two scramble/sack.fumbles for OU TDs, the pros will live with a sack, an INT, but they won't tolerate poor decisions with the ball, I think that has a lot to do with his stock dropping. Had he played in the bowl against a team that was not used to the B12 style of offense, WVU likely wins and Grier probably puts up huge numbers, Sills was open the WHOLE game, but the ball was not delivered to him. What would his pro prospects be right now if the last game he appeared in was a 5 TD 350 yard passing day, rather than those two BAD fumbles?

I don't know. I am not saying Will doesn't need to work on protecting the ball when in scramble mode, but he has the physical make up of a Brett Favre...with not quite the arm strength...but still has plenty of zip...as a comparison I think his skill sets are heads and shoulders above Patrick Mahomes coming out...

I think he will mature into a good pro QB, the ball security issues will be worked out as he grows and realizes that you don't need to swing for the fence on every play. He has good arm strength, excellent accuracy, really good "evasiveness", needs to mature and learn MUCH better ball security, and he will be a good one.

After watching some film, Will is very good but not our best QB, going back to 1983. This is based on passing ability only. Scramblers are harder to compare to straight drop-back passers.

I think you will find out more about Will at the Combine..how serious the injury was we will never know..but he will have two more chances to showcase what he has....he has two years of tape that can back up what he can and cannot do...

I feel kind of badly for him. If he’s hurt his stock by his performance at the Senior Bowl, he wasted an entire year at WVU.

He could have left the program for the NFL following the ‘17 season and been a 3rd Rd draft pick.

I think that people that blog offer the same opinions that we do..they just talk to talk...not a single NFL scout is going to share what they really feel about Will or any player , especially if they are serious in drafting that kid..


For the life of me I am not sure what the love affair is with Locke...he reminds of a former Mizzou QB in Chase Daniel...nothing more and nothing less...IMHO the only first round QB pick in this years draft is Haskins...

I'm not even sure Haskins will live up to his draft position.

One thing for all of those QBs; They played behind good offensive lines and had more time to set up and throw than they do in the NFL. Will has a fast delivery which will benefit him.

I think that Will would have done more to improve his draft stock by skipping the Senior Bowl and playing in the Camping Bowl.
