It's easy to do when they draft high pretty consistently. Their farm system isn't really loaded because a lot of their premiere prospects are in the NHL now, or at the least they turned pro, but with a full year of Luo and a few moves in FA they can make some noise in the East.

Agreed - going into this season they had signed a bunch of veteran FA's and they really didn't do much, now that the younger players are in the lineup and they'll have a full year of a competent goaltender like Roberto Luongo, it should make a big difference

I wouldn't be surprised if Dale Tallon goes after a guy like Dave Bolland - he's the type of guy that could be a difference maker for them, good on faceoffs, can chip in offensively and they could move one of the young talented centers to the wing if they wanted

Florida's 1st round picks the last five drafts:
2013 - Aleksander Barkov
2012 - Michael Matheson
2011 - Jonathan Huberdeau
2010 - Erik Gudbranson, Nick Bjugstad & Quinton Howden
2009 - Dmitry Kulikov

You have to admit, they've done pretty well in the draft so I don't doubt they can get a really good, young talented player - they need the right coach - Kevin Dineen(although getting them in the playoffs one year) was a first time head coach, same thing with Peter Horacheck - this is why I think Dan Bylsma would be a good fit because he wouldn't be a first time coach, he's been in the pressure cooker in Pittsburgh so I think having someone who's been behind the bench before should be a calming influence for them, especially for a team that wants to do a lot better and make some noise next season

Please sign him Dale. Please. Save the Leafs idiotic management from themselves.

He's not a difference maker. He's a 3rd (maybe 4th) line centre on a good team. He's not cake, he's frosting.

He's also not actually good on faceoffs, he won only 45.1% last year. This includes a 38.7% mark on the road... given that the Leafs were 4% better at home than on the road there may be some issues with the stat keepers at ACC, whereas the road numbers are across 29 different facilities/bean counters and may be a better indicator. He's at 47.2% over the last 3 seasons and 46.3% for his career.

He's topped 40 points once in his career, and it was 6 years ago. He played the entire season with Patrick Kane in 2012-13 (only 33 even strength minutes without him) and half the season with Patrick Sharp and did nothing (and did his best to ruin them). Only 9 even strength points in 35 games playing in a scoring role with two of the best wingers in the game. That's a big part of why he was down on the 3rd and 4th lines at the end of the playoffs.

Seriously, please sign him Florida. Cause I know if you don't the Leafs won't be able to resist his royal Mimiconess and I'll have to hear for the next 5-6 years about how he once scored a Cup winning goal. In a postseason where he only scored 3 goals total and had 6 points in 18 games mind you. But still, Cup winning goal! Clutch!

That's not even mentioning the fact that he's coming off of a potentially career threatening injury, one that when he returned from it late in the year I heard his skating described as "caught in a bear trap".

KT: The Kings are having a lot of success getting down low and moving the puck across the goal mouth. Dan, what do the Rangers need to do to counter?
DB: Uhhhhh... Well.... It's a fast game. And... see....
Weeksie: If you were behind that Ranger bench, Danny, what would be your first move?
DB: Well... You gotta... you know. Nash with Richards or St Louis I guess. Because.... see... The game won't just come to you.
KT: Are you retarded?
DB: Well...

I don't, but I don't see calling a guy a 3rd-4th line centre (or pointing out that he hasn't been good at faceoffs) as being about insulting a guy or not liking him anyway. It's simply what all the data seems to say he is, even if the Toronto press seem determined to think otherwise.

Yeah, I think Bolland is an example of a guy who cashed in on his Cup glory (how you doing Max Talbot?), which is fine for him, but the guy will have high expectations from that point on when you get paid.

He's still got one more big cash in coming for that goal. I mean, with that resume and having missed most of the last season because of a brutal injury that he hasn't yet shown he's fully recovered from would you give a player a 5 or 6 year deal? But I'll bet someone does.

I don't see NHL Network as one of the poll choices.

Bylsma will bring a cup to Buffalo before Babcock brings one to Toronto!
