Azinger still does. He ain't havin' none of that "The Open" business. The '86 Masters was my 1st real tournament watching and I know the American golfers referred to it as the British Open. I might tack on some more yrs...I would say early 2000s when I recall it being call The Open on the telecast, but when O"Meara won it American players were still calling it the British.
Feel free to butt the hell out then. We won't mind.Thread worthy? No

You got to see one of the great Masters of all time. The '86 Masters was my 1st real tournament watching and I know the American golfers referred to it as the British Open. Times change. Its a global game now, not one that is restricted to the British Isles like it was back in the day they named it "The Open". Gotta change with the times or risk looking silly like they do now.
Fake adulation always irritates me.Just laughing at you getting all over worked up over Mr. Palmer
We'll agree to disagree then.I ran a golf discussion board for several years. We had a few UK members. There were some heated debates about this when some people insisted on calling it The British Open.. but they were basically just trolling the Brit members.
Insisting it be called The Open, which is its name, is no more ridiculous than insisting on calling it the British Open, which is not. Ours is named The United States (aka US) Open, so there's no excuse for confusion.

I love the guy. Johnny Miller and Patrick Reed as well. Guys who take no shit, tell it like it is and don't care what you think.Using Azinger is the proof you are on the wrong side of the argument.
.
Bullshit. Good lord.Irritability over Arnold Palmers name makes me laugh. One of the best teaching Pros I went to in Orlando was friends with AP. He even referred to him as Mr. Palmer when talking about him. I know what I would call him if I met ever met him — which I didn’t. And it wouldn’t be Arnie lol
But yeah this thread and you getting worked up over it is pretty funny.
Bullshit. Good lord.
LOL! You don't know anyone in golf. You probably don't even play golf. You sound like a troll.http://www.pga.com/professionals/alan-j-flashner-pga
Great teacher. The old school ones are always “keep it simple stupid”.
You should try it. Lmao

Ha ha. You are definitely a troll. No one could beat me left handed....unless they are left handed. Proves you know nothing about the game. Troll exposed.Come to Dallas and I’ll take all your lunch money.
Im pretty sure I could beat you left handed

Watched a documentary of sorts on Arnie shortly after he passed and they made mention of it....Snead, Nelson, even Hogan...they were not really enamored with making that trip. Granted, travel was different early in Snead/Nelson careers, but Arnie changed all that.
Let me ask you this; prior to about 7 years ago had you ever heard it referred to as "The Open"? I've been watching it since the early 70s and never heard it referred to as that until the Royal and Ancient made a huge stink about it during ABC's contract renegotiations abot 7 or 8 years ago.
