I know we have all touched on the subject numerous times. But if it were truly up to you, what would you do? Would you...

Leave the teams the way they are
Move some teams to different markets (if so, where and why)
Expand and add more teams (how many and where)
Contract the league (which teams)

Just curious what some of you would do if it were up to you. And figured it would be nice to have a thread strictly covering the topic in depth.

I would certainly relocate some teams. I like the idea of expansion in theory, but I do not know how much I like the idea of taking 50-100 NHL spots away, and question what it would do to the draw of the KHL. With the (temporary in my expert opinion) fall off in disposable assets in the US along with the bloated (and soon to crash) economy in Gangster Russia, I have often thought that 2-3 significant moves by high end players could lead to a bit of a low over to that league, and with the wrong teams contracted, some of these players may move.

(too much)

I would move the Trashers to Ontario and the Panthers to Winnipeg. Then, i would realign the Detroit Red Wings to the Eastern Conference, placing them in the NE division, while moving NJ to the SE.

(this is purely hypothetical, don't get pissed if you don't like where I put your team:heh:)

I had a similar idea, just wasn't sure what to do with the division's, but that's actually a pretty good idea. I'm sure a lot of Red Wings fans would oppose this big time... I think it would be fucking awesome to have 4 Original 6 teams in one division.

46, through expansion, what do you mean by taking away 50-100 NHL spots?

And while I too would love to see expansion, because the more the merrier IMO, we would need all 30 current teams flourishing in their respective markets, and also show a demand in other markets, which I just can't see happening any time soon.

I can't speak for the RW fans, but IMO this would help their team. If they're playing in the eastern conference, that means they're staying in the eastern time zone... which they're already in, and subsequently gives them WAY less traveling to do.

I meant contraction. It is early.

You need a College football team, and for the record, no UCONN is not an active college football team :L

I got time to think about it... It's just tough cause I feel no connection to any college/team.

Boston College has been good for the last decade or so. They are easy to root for as well because they are hard nosed, hard working and play the right way. They make the best out of lower end recruiting classes and always play tough. They have becme a rival of my Hokies over the past 5 years or so, and between those two teams and their hitting, I am sure the ice baths are full after those games.

Also, Mark Herzlich, and his story is utterly incredible!

Awesome story, and definitely an easy pick seeing as I have been rooting for BC in college hockey. But I got time to pick and own the water cooler ;)

Aside from K.C. and Wisconsin, do you guys see any other markets in the U.S.? Possibly Vegas? I'd love to see hockey back here in CT, ain't gonna happen in this sesspool called Hartford.
