What would Dirk be worth in a trade?

Not saying it will happen, but he has said recently that this summer will be a big summer for the Mavs. He said he doesn't want to play another year like this one, fighting for the 8th or 9th spot and that he wants to be on a championship caliber team soon. He's also said that now that he has won it all, he wants to retire in Dallas.

So with all that out of the way, do fans outside of Dallas think Dirk still has the value to be a top trade bait candidate or would he be an after thought once the Dwights and other bigger/younger names are off the table?

i think Dirk is sticking around to see what FA's Cuban can pull this offseason otherwise he would have been gone already.

Dallas has so much money this offseason and an owner that is MORE than willing to spend it it wouldnt surprise me to see the Mavs right back towards the top of the West next year if they are smart with how they spend.

Yeah, I know Dirk will just see what Cubes does this offseason with all that cap room...but what if we can't draw a top FA? Dallas is a big TV market but not a big endorsement market. Athletes still haven't figured out that Texas is great for big money contracts without all that tax, and we don't really have a good record of getting the big FA's here in Dallas. So suppose nothing happens and another team of one year re-treads gets rolled out and Dirk says forget it and demands to be traded. I just got to thinking about it and how Dirk probably couldn't get top talent and any draft picks we would just waste. Eh, just looking to kill time since NBA basketball in dallas sucks right now.

i dont think dirk is worth much in a trade........really the only teams that would want him are teams that think they are one piece away......so we are really just talking draft picks down the road and maybe a young guy with high upside

but i dont see him going anywhere he will be a legend in dfw after he retires a mav (still will be even if he left).....but if never wears another jersey he will be right up there with troy,emmitt,irvin... IMO

The only way I would accept Dirk given his age is if I got that ass in fordman's picture
