Let's see, we have seen the debilitating misfortune of the Bears, Packers, and Vikings in 2013. And, barring a miracle, the Lions will not win the North again this year.

The Lions have simply been too lucky to win it this year. They

clearly
need better luck next year!

In 2014 they need Green Bay to lose Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy, Randall Cobb, James Jones, A.J. Hawk and Clay Matthews for the entire season (nearly pulled this off in 2013 anyway...).

The Bears must have Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey and Devin Hester out for the entire year. Cutler and the defense can stay healthy. And it would be helpful to the Lions' cause.

Minnesota just needs to lose Peterson. But then again some stiff from the CFL would probably come up and set the NFL on its ear and the Lions still wouldn't win.

What would it take for the Lions to make the Super Bowl?

Oh, that one is simple. Just buy tickets...

I can see why a Lions fan would be discouraged about the prospect of winning the division this year, given that the team has lost four of its past five. At the same time, it's not as if Detroit doesn't have good enough players to win at home against NYG and at MN to finish the regular season. Do that and all it takes for Detroit to win the division is for Chicago to lose at Philly and GB to lose v. Pittsburgh and at Chicago. None of that seems too improbable by itself. For all of it to happen, of course, is somewhat less likely, but I won't be shocked if the Lions end up winning the NFCN this year.
