Hopefully someone who can make us forget the numerous screw ups at the position since last century at this point.

I was watching some highlights on YouTube. It's kind of hard to judge a QB when he has a clean pocket on nearly every throw but what I noticed was his kind of odd delivery is very compact and gets out quickly. That's certainly a positive.

I noticed that too and put more importance on his release and accuracy. Eliminating the clean pocket, I also looked for those times in which there was pressure and was surprised to note how nimble he was. Dude is definitely not a runner but if I had to describe what he does under pressure, I would say that he moves pretty well in order to create space and time for himself.

At first I thought his mobility was fine, like Cousins he appears to have enough speed to escape the pocket and get the first down. But then I saw a designed run off a play fake at the goal line and although he did score his first few steps were painfully slow. But I'm OK with that. If he can just make the right reads and hit what he is throwing at I'm good

You don't have to be Russell Wilson or Steve Young. You can be Marino, Manning, Brady …. if you can slide and step up in the pocket you'll be fine …. as long as your mind processes the info quickly and correctly.

Good point, In fact, that is why I didn't get the comparisons to D. Williams ho could actually run when he came into the league. Maybe they meant the battered, creaky knee(s) DW. :noidea:

You're right saying Haskins isn't a runner. In 22 career games (14 starts) he only averaged 1.9 ypc.

My only issue w/ him is his limited total games in college. No question he can play. But I'm not sure he's ready for the speed of the NFL. But then again alotta rookies aren't used to it at first.

And w/ 2 former Buckeyes now in Washington I hope both have successful rookie years.

Stephen A. Smith called Haskins a running QB before the draft. Did he watch him play @ Ohio State?

He is a much better pick than Daniel Jones.

I'm not sure if you were here when there was debate on sitting a (now the) rookie QB or starting such a high draftee right away, back in the Griffin days, but your point is well taken concerning his limited experience. I'm an old dude, who believes that there should be an adjustment period for these guys. I know that it requires patience, but hey, if that's what it takes to give them a better chance to succeed, learn the playbook, become comfortable with the NFL game and accustomed to that speed, then that's what has to be done.
